Welcome wolfcoyote,
I'm also a dedicated fan of Adam Christianson's MacCast. What a great podcast. I'm surprised that if you're taking so long to get a Mac, given that you've heard so much Mac praise between that podcast and this site.
I'm sure you'll have a few questions one you get your computer, until then enjoy the anticipation. |

Good forum.
I just acquired a Mac mini and I've gotten a bunch of good tips already.
I picked up a G4 1g 1.5ghz, Tiger (stealth upgrade)
I had been playing around with Hackintoshes for a few months and decided to get the real thing. See Apple, it is a good marketing tool!
My other G4 machine is an Amiga. Gee, I wonder if I could get OS X on that?
Run XP and Linux (currently Ubuntu) on my other boxes.
I am thinking of trying 10.5 on an external drive. That's my next project. |

Hello everyone,
I'm a newbie to Mac, and currently considering buying one Mini (1.83GHz). I ask some questions regarding that in other forum.
The reason for my interest is growing Mac user base and iPhone application development.
I hope to be active here.

my boyfriend just got a mini... to use as a media center, for lack of a better term (it's hooked up to the TV). Long story short, I clicked when I should have clacked and now the screen rolls. I did this in resolution...something about RTSC and PAL.
Literally... it came this afternoon and now I've killed it. |

Hello there!
Been on a posting rampage and stumbled across this just now!
Been using Macs since '84 (I was the only one they made listen to the training tape at school!). But OS X still throws me for loops on a regular basis.
I never really cared much for the minis. I always thought they were great 'secretary' Macs, and in general really good Macs, but never for a 'power' user like me.
I had already bought my XBox, and I played fewer games on my big Macs.
Then I bought my 360. Games on the Mac? Civ3 doesn't need that Radeon 9800 dual 1.33 G4!
Then my desktop G4 started getting really flaky, and sometimes barely usable.
Upon some reflection, I figured a mini would be just right for me now. Found the prices on eBay to be a bit more than I was interested in paying for an emergency Mac replacement, and finally found a fully loaded G4 1.5Ghz mini that had been in a nice home for the first part of it's life on Craigslist. Picked up a memory upgrade on the way home, and upgraded it before even turning it on.
Now I'm really enamored with the minis! I sure hope Apple has an upgraded mini coming in '09! 'Cuz it would be shame to let these awesome little machines disappear!
Anyway, rather than get an audio card, IR port, Bluetooth module, and a faster G4 for the media system, it's being retired with an Intel mini that has all that stuff built in.
Well there you go.
SC
ps - And I'm a rabid fan of the carriage return! _________________ Grumpy old man of computing.

Make sure it has pins! |

| Future mini buyer here, amazed to have found such a large and active forum devoted to what must surely be a great product. Update or no update, I want one this spring. Gonna read up and learn as much as I can until then. Oh, and yearn as well. |

Just bought my first Mac after many years of being a dedicated (dare I say rabid!?!) PC supporter...and it's a 1.5 CS Intel Mini!!
After owning it for less than 2 days, I've completed an upgrade to 2 gig o' RAM, with a C2D CPU (thinkin' T7200) upgrade in the very near future...hopefully within the next couple weeks.
This site has already proven to be quite informative!!
Thanks all!!! |

| Hi all. I'll be getting my first Mac Mini tomorrow, which will also be my first Mac. We have a couple others in the house (iBook and old G4 tower), but I've been a PC since 1984. |
