Rowmote Remote Control Application Released
Friday, January 30, 2009
Posted by: Glenn
Rowmote is a new 99-cent application in the App Store that allows users to control their Mac over a wireless network with an iPhone or iPod touch. You can control applications like Front Row, DVD Player, iTunes, QuickTime and Keynote, all from an interface that looks and functions like the Apple Remote. Rowmote also features an "Apps Remote" on the backside that allows users to switch between controllable applications and toggle the iTunes visualizer. But like other remote control applications for the iPhone or iPod touch we've mentioned before, Rowmote requires a little program to be running on your Mac for everything to work. You can download the "Rowmote Helper" program over here if you're interested. All in all, it seems to work pretty well.

| Does anyone know if this works with Plex? It sounds like it should. |

What I don't understand is why Apple's own Remote app doesn't work with Front Row?! I always lose that little white remote! _________________ MacBook 1.83Ghz C2D, 2GB Ram, 160GB 7200rpm HDD, OS X 10.6.5

I don't understand that either. What they really need to do is add support for third-party remotes in Front Row like they just did for the Apple TV. There's no reason why they can't since every Mac has an IR port. It's just in the software. |

Has any one tried this out yet? It's only 59p so I may take the plunge... _________________ MacBook 1.83Ghz C2D, 2GB Ram, 160GB 7200rpm HDD, OS X 10.6.5

I couldn't get it to work with Plex or Boxee.

The remote is responsive and seems to work okay. Mine doesn't look like the white Apple remote though. It has a diamond pattern instead of the wheel. I bet Apple made them change it up. _________________ 1.42GHz Mac mini

That's why there's Remote Buddy, which controls Boxee out of the box, and has its own iPhone/iPod Touch controller. _________________ My hardware:

I've been a user of Remote Buddy and the Ajax remote for a long time. I just like playing around with new controls for the iPhone and seeing how they work. It could be called a sickness.

I still laugh at the name, but I totally agree. _________________ 1.42GHz Mac mini

It looks like they changed up the interface again. I like it this time though.

| I hate to bring up a slightly older thread with all the excitement over the new Mac minis, but this works with Plex now. It works well too. |
