I so rarely get power problems, that when my last UPS died about a year and a half ago, I didn't replace it. In that year and a half, we've had two power outages of 10 and 20 minutes, and no brownouts/blinks. _________________ MacBook Pro 1.83GHz Core Duo, 2GB RAM, 250GB HD, Dell 802.11n card, 1.4TB external

| That's what you call unlucky. We also rarely get power outages here, but it's nice knowing your safe with your data. |

Oh yeah, I forgot to mention, since I use my MBP as my main machine, whenever the power goes out, I'm safe, because the machine just reverts to the internal battery _________________ MacBook Pro 1.83GHz Core Duo, 2GB RAM, 250GB HD, Dell 802.11n card, 1.4TB external

Well, since you put it that way, that's what you call an advantage. |

Two UNI-TEC Unisaveplus-700. One for the Mini, one for the monitor. Haven't had an occasion to use them yet. We get a lot of power cuts though and I switch to a 700W petrol gen set. _________________ Mac+, SE30, Classic, 4400 (metal), 603, LC475, iMac bondi (3), iBk orange. Make that 3.
I'm a firm believer in UPS's. I'm more concerned with voltage regulation than total blackouts. Brownouts and surges happen in all homes. |

Me too. What brand/model did you get this time around? I still have my two little APC Back-ups. |

I bought another Tripp-lite. Costco sells them for $100 CDN. My brand preference is APC, but $100 with built in voltage regulation is hard to beat. It looks pretty good too (at least as far as UPS's go). The blue LCD screen looks quite nice.
You can change the orientation of the LCD readout to vertical. It's pretty neat to watch the readout fluctuate. People think they have clean steady power, but you'll see the readout vary about 3-5 volts on any given day. |

Tested the two UNI-TEC Unisaveplus-700. The one on the 19" Acer held out for 1 hour 49 minutes. The one on the Mini was still going strong.
BTW: these UPSs cost $19.00 each. (No, that's not a typo )

I have 3 APS somethings and they work for about 20-30 minutes - every computer is plugged in and the UPS monitoring system sends me a text message when it is going to die out - so I am able to remotely shut them all down if not at home. _________________ Wojtek |

These $19 UPS are so good I'm going to buy more and use them for emergency electricity in my motel rooms. 5W energy saver bulbs are only $2 each here and they should stay on for at least 2 hours. That's plenty of time to start the generator. _________________ Mac+, SE30, Classic, 4400 (metal), 603, LC475, iMac bondi (3), iBk orange.
