I was gonna be getting a C2D Mini,but I recently got more money so I'm getting a 20'' 2.4 iMac,brand new Very Happy

Just though I'd ask,any problems I should be aware of before I plunge into the world of iMac ownership

Also, has anyone here upgraded the Ram in an iMac and how much of a difference it makes ?

Thanks in advance,

Dean

I would make sure that you look at one of the 20" models in person before buying. The viewing angles on the screen aren't the greatest. It made decide to go with the 24" model. The sweet spot with RAM is 4GB as far as I'm concerned. Don't buy your RAM from Apple though. Just grab it from Newegg or somewhere. You'll save a lot of money. If you're going to spend money on an upgrade from Apple, make it the hard drive. You really can't do that one on your own. I mean you can, but it's a scary proposition of taking off the glass and stuff.

Yeah I've seen videos on the screens coming off...not for the faint hearted !

After seeing the difference on videos of iMacs with 4GB of Ram,that will be my first upgrade

I will have a very good look at the 20'' today, reason I didn't go for the 24'' is that I simply dont have the space for it (its sharing a table with alot of other technology)

Thanks for the help Very Happy

I have the 20" and the screen is superb when viewing directly. However if you stand up and look down at the screen really odd colour changes occur. The same thing happens if you move to the side. Its not an issue for me as I usually use the iMac sat directly in front of it.

The only other issue is the glossy screen, I initially got a lot of reflection in the screen but I quickly got use to this and never even notice them now so its no longer an issue for me.

You should be fine but it is slightly different on an iMac than a laptop, on the laptop you'd just move if it was too bright, but its not as easy to do on an iMac.

I moved from a mini c2d to a 20" iMac which I promptly upgraded to 4Gb of RAM and have not regretted the move for one minute. Go and have a play at your apple store.

There a decent set of speakers for a desktop set up for a pretty good price and they look awesome to boot.
