I have my mini sitting on top of my XP tower case. The XP has been on for a long time (months) and the mini has been running for a couple of weeks. I've not noticed any unusual sounds coming from either. A week or so I turned off the XP box and it's been off for most of the last week. Now I seem to hear a soft whirring noise that I've not heard before. I think it might be coming from the mini. It seems to only occur later at night when the rest of the house is quiet. Anyone else having this happen to them? _________________ Mac mini powered up on 2-11-2005 |

My Mac mini seems louder now than when I first got it. I'm really not sure why, maybe I'm just more tuned into it. A "soft whirring noise" is exactly what I have. Like today it was really is not that bad but yesterday it was really more noticeable doing basically the same tasks. _________________ 14" 1.25GHz G4 iBook (died)

| I recently (June, 05) joined as registered user. I was having fan noise concerns and did a google search "mac mini fan noise issues". I basically concluded that if I shut down the Mac Mini and unplugged the power source that maybe the problem would be solved. Problem solved. If the LED light was not there, I would not know it was on. The fan was running constantly prior to the "fix". The only thing that I can think of that may have had some effect was an update to 10.3.9 on OS X Panther. Prior to the installation of this update, I had no fan issues. I just ordered the Tiger up date through Apple.com which I should receive in a couple of days. I am looking forward to running Tiger!!! I truly am amazed by the Mac Mini and it's overall performance. |

Some web pages with flash animation cause the fan to come on more often. I can't remember what site it was on, but there was a 3d Java animation of a laptop that made my fan go into hyperdrive. _________________ 1.42GHz Mac mini
