|
|
| Man, I'm having trouble sharing files between a computer running Windows 7 and a Mac mini running Leopard. I can see the Mac mini on the W7 machine, but it won't connect. The W7 machine doesn't even show in the Finder. Everything is set to "WORKGROUP" for the name with sharing turned on. The same setup with a Vista machine works perfectly. Any ideas? I'm at a total loss.... |

Could be why W7 is still in beta.... you can't expect everything to work.... _________________ Automotive Digital Marketing

| Perhaps. It could also have something to do with that HomeGroup feature. I'm still trying though.... |

Goto Start Menu
Search for: seclpol
Hit Enter
Goto Local Policies> Security Options
Double Click on Network security: LAN Manager Authentication
Change level to: Send LM # LTLM Responses
Then,
Goto Network security: Minimum session security for NTLM SSP
De-select Require 128-bit encryption
Hit OK
Hope that helps.

Dude!!!! I think turning off the 128-bit encryption did it for me. I already tried various LAN manger settings and was back on the "Send LM & LTLM Responses" setting. I cannot thank you enough -- it's working great now. |

| That's interesting. I remember having to change the "Network Security: LAN Manager" authentication level to "Send LM & NTLM -- use NTLMv2 session security if negotiated" in Vista for my wife. I mean, so we could share stuff between her latop and a Mac mini. I'll have to remember these new settings going forward. I have a feeling that she is going to want Windows 7 when it comes out. If she doesn't become a Mac user that is. |

Works for me too!
I was having the darndest time getting it to work. I know it will never happen, but it would be great if Apple and Microsoft got together to impove networking capability. |

I've toughed out Vista since the beginning so I'm used to its security BS.
Being a dual OS user Leopard definitely has Vista beat, but I gotta tell ya, Windows 7 is impressing the pants off me.
I'll still always use both but I'm holding off on upgrading my MacBook Pro until 7 comes out.
With cheaper/faster hardware on the PC side and a kick-ass OS, its a no brainer to switch back.
I cant believe I just said that. _________________ 1 x MacBook Pro 15" 2.16GHz

And a whole lotta patience. |

I feel about the same way. I'll even take the madness even a step further, IE 8 is nice.
Honestly, Windows 7 is an awesome OS with a UI that flows together nicely. It's also super fast on average hardware. I'm even finding the new keyboard shortcuts to be handy for Snap and stuff.
Then you have the unlimited hardware options and great pricing out there on the PC side. I mean....the current Apple lineup isn't doing much for me these days. Between the pricing and super glassy/glossy screens, I would rather build a Hackintosh. The Mac mini is still cool, but they need to start paying attention to the bloody thing. It's the only Mac that I would even consider buying right now. |

Mate please help me out here. I have the following problem (I adjusted the settings like you mentioned). I can detect de Time Capsule in Windows 7, I can moun't it, I can read files from it, I can create files on it, I can even copy small files on it. But when I try to copy a 175 MB file, I get the following error (in Win7):
There is a problem accessing T:\
Make sure you are connected to the network and try again
What is going on here?
P.S.
- I have the most recent Time Capsule update (7.4.2)
- There is a Time Capsule password on it, which is the same as my Windows password
- The workgroup is on both systems 'WORKGROUP'
Edit: drag-to-copyt to a mounted TC drive works... but not when clicking it first then pasting an (large) item... |

|
|
My new Windows 7 system can see my Mac in it's network but when I click on it to open, it asks for a Network Password.
The solution above solved this problem but I'm going to restate it to make it as clear as possible.
Click on Start Menu
In the search box where it says "Search for programs and files" search for the word "security".
In the results list click on the program "Local Security Policy".
In the program that opens click on Local Policies then Security Options.
Scroll down in the list in the right panel and click on " Network security: LAN Manager Authentication".
In the drop down menu, select "Send LM & LTLM Responses".
(Is this complicated enough ?)
Having made that one change and then clicking Apply, suddenly I can connect to my Mac without the dialog asking for my network password.
It's been noted that you should also change
"Network security: Minimum session security for NTLM SSP" to
"De-select Require 128-bit encryption" but I did not need to do that.
Good luck !
It's crazy that such a convoluted process needs to be followed just to connect to a Mac. There must be an easier way. |
