Well, Apple better do something with the Mac Mini pretty quick if they are gonna do anything at all, because it looks like they may have some serious competition in the HTPC realm. NVIDIA just unveiled it's Ion platform at CES, "an Intel Atom coupled with their 9400M chipset". Smaller than a Mac Mini, with the ability to push 1080p, low heat and cheap cheap cheap. And, its hardware combination makes it a no-brainer for installing OS-X.
Here's a couple teaser photos:

I was looking at that last night and was thinking that would make an amazing netbook and an amazing nettop. Also, the $50 premium for the Ion platform looks like a good deal to me as well.

You could safely figure at least $50-$100 over current nettops (around $300), I hope someone sells this with the dual core Atom though since that would make a speedy little Linux box. _________________ "You must control your future by taking command of your present, and fixing and learning from your past."

The rear doesn't have the nvidia branding on it, also usually the back end has the eathernet, power, video, but the 7.1 audio would usually be on the back. Also, the case is kind of ugly, now if it had ATI and AMD branding it would be beautiful. _________________ "You must control your future by taking command of your present, and fixing and learning from your past."

The NVIDIA is a a lot of impressive technology in a very small package. I am not a fan of the busy front of this box. I think they should have put the toslink on the back. Not a big deal if you are running and entire HDMI 1.3 set-up. Myself I prefer to run audio via toslink to my amp on it's own.
Again great little product. |

In this case it's no doubt function over form so I wouldn't expect it to be Apple quality, visually speaking, since it ain't by Apple. Plus this thing isn't suppose to be displayed in the forefront of you AV rack. It just needs to sit there quietly chewing on those 1080p frames. _________________ Game: eVGA 780i | C2D E8400 @ 3.8GHz | 2GB Muskin Extreme PC2 8500 | eVGA 8800GT | 150GB Raptor | 160GB WD
