Anyone have experience of the built in modems only connecting at really low speeds when running tiger? on a Mac Mini

I have heard that this is the case when people updated to 10.3.9 and beyond, as I dont have a Broadband connection and no chance of getting one in the near future Dial-up is my only way of getting online.

40k + I can live with but not 21-28k

My Mini should be here tomorrow Confused

Ouch .... 28.8 would be painful. It really depends on your phone lines and the modem's chipset. Some chipsets work better than others with different lines. I know back in the day Lucent worked better than Rockwell for me. I don't think upgrading above 10.3.9 will make much of a difference. Can you upgrade to DSL?

you shouldn't have anything to worry about.... i've had my mini since april and i've been running tiger since it's release date. i only have dialup so i absoultely *have* to use my modem for the internet and i've been consistently running 48k and above on the connection speed (usually a tad more).... so you shouldn't have any problems. cheers.

The OS has nothing to do with the actual connect speed. It can certainly effect how TCP/IP is communicating with everything else, but if you're actually connecting at only 21-28k, then it's either the modem itself, or something outside of the machine (phone lines, ISP, etc.).
