The Perian team has announced the release of Perian 1.1.3, an update to their popular QuickTime component for Mac OS X. Fixes and improvements in this release include:

- Enabled Indeo 2/3 decodecs
- Added external idx/sub (VobSub) support
- Added support for H.264 and H.263 in FLV containers
- Apple's decoder now handles Baseline/Main Profile H.264
- Fix inconsistent importing for multi-channel audio
- Reduced memory usage for packed streams
- Added sanity checks on all preferences
- Enabled hack to show subtitles in Front Row
- Fixed negative values in SSA \frz tag
- Fixed VSFilter bug-compatibility for \an

Perian 1.1.3 weighs in at 3 MB and requires Mac OS X 10.4.7 or later.

Sounds like a decent little update with the H.264 support and subtitle support in Front Row. I shall do some testing tomorrow.

Why do they keep releasing it for 10.4.7 or later.

Why not 10.4.7 and above.

Considering that it is going to get really rough here soon to update panther with the latest quicktime once snow leopard comes out.

Seems like a decent update. I love perian!

I have noticed that it seems to have more bugs on PPC. I use 3 macs (1x intel and 2x ppc) and it runs with noticeably less glitches on my intel mini. Obviously the mini is much faster as the ppc systems are only a G4 1ghz and G4 600mhz but the glitches have nothing to do with performance.

The main glitch I have is that with perian installed and using quicktime the video screen will sometimes be blank but with audio. This is often the same issue quicktime has when it doesn't have the proper codec. Its the same version that I have on the intel system so why would the codecs not work on the ppc? Any ideas?
