I used the combo update and didn't notice any problems. _________________ Phil

The update went smoothly on my Intel mini and MBP. I just updated them through Software Update. Both came in at like 190MB.
| Quote: | | I didn't have any trouble installing 10.5.6 on my Mac mini or MacBook Pro. I'm just disappointed they didn't add four finger gestures for the older MacBook Pros. Come on, if you're going to add a new Trackpad pane... |
I had a feeling they wouldn't include four-finger gestures in 10.5.6. It sort of makes me feel like giving them a one-finger gesture.

Hmmm....posts about the installer freezing and having to kill it are a bit worrying....should I use the combo update? What's the difference between the regular and the combo?
I remember when I tried to update to 10.5.4 it wouldn't install, saying I didn't have access privileges. When I downloaded the combo update, it worked fine.
Thanks,

Hey Kramer,
The combo update will update any Mac you run it on, PPC or Intel based. The one you download through Mac update is for your computer only. The down side to the combo update is it is almost 700mb big. I always use the combo because I have several Mac's to update at any time and this way I only have to download it once. You should have no problems with combo update as long as you don't mind the download size. _________________ Mac Mini 2.3 GHz Intel Core i5, 8GB RAM 500GB HD

| It changed my HDD name to "P[;UILj,}.J +". I manually changed it back and repaired the disk permissions. Other than that glitch, I had no other issues. The update itself went pretty fast. |

The DVD Player app has actually been misbehaving for me lately. Sometimes it will stop responding out of the blue when switching between screen sizes or going back to the main menu. I certainly hope this helps. |

190 Mb for me too and it worked fine (doing something else meanwhile and not thinking of it ) When I checked back, everything seems normal. I think I'll try the 12" Powerbook 1.33 now.

And this is from my updated Powerbook, took quite some time, but hey, it works! _________________ ___________________Jim©

Installed okay thru Software Update, but this MacBook now seems noticeably slower to boot... _________________ Intel Mini 2.0GHz C2D (4GB/120GB/SuperDrive/10.5.8 ), 120GB WD Passport, Logitech ergo k/b

Ran the update on my C2D mini and my PowerMac G4 1GHz. All is well on both.
This update seems to have been pushed out faster than most. Usually the time between an update beta and its final release is quite a bit longer than this update was. Maybe it was needed more than past updates and it was pretty large (190mb) since it covered many OS and app bugs. |

The timing of the final release seems pretty normal. They are basically coming out like every three months. The time between 10.5.3 and 10.5.4 was shorter though.

| Anyone else here use LogMeIn? Ever since the 10.5.6 release I can no longer remote to my Mac. I can log in to LogMeIn and see that it's online, but when it tries to connect it times out. |

You really just got me thinking. So, I went back and looked around for the dates. To be honest, the time between 10.5.5 and 10.5.6 seemed shorter to me as well. _________________ 1.25GHz Mac Mini / 1.8GHz iMac G5 / 2.0GHz C2D Mac mini (2009)

Ever since I installed 10.5.6, Safari's rendering text all jumbled together. In fact, as I write this, the j in the word jumbled above (and just to the left of this) is on top of the u. This is not a problem in Firefox. Anyone else having this problem? I hope this message is legible, 'cause I can barely read several of the words I've typed. _________________ MacBook Pro 13" 2.26 Core 2 Duo 4GB RAM 160GB HD

I would make sure that text encoding is set to default under View in the menu. You could also try trashing the com.apple.safari.plist file in your user/library/preferences folder or just resetting Safari. |
