For some reason, linux just won't go away, so you may as well have a forums for it! It runs on everything from a floppy/thumb drive to a mainframe system.
Now if I could only get it to burp my baby and wash my car! |
Hehe..
Ghosty,
I agree, Linux is everywhere.
That said; I doubt Linux will ever replace OS X.
BUT
Linux on a Mac (or PC) adds greatly to flexibility...and choice...
So I don't reckon it gets better than that....

I'll try to add something this weekend after backups. I'm not sure what or where, but something.
I'm sorry for not getting back guys. I ended up staying in Illinois for another day. I was also taking a break from looking at computer screens. I'm like seeing double with this stupid bandaging over my nose. I would post a picture, but it's pretty gruesome looking. _________________ Brian

| Can it be called Mac/*nix. That allows for the other unix flavours as well as linux. E.g. FreeBSD, NetBSD, Minix & OpenSolaris. |

Maybe in the future. I've been taking pictures of the healing progress.
Do you guys have any scarring prevention tips?

It's like looking in the mirror. Well, minus the cigarette, aviator glasses and rugged good looks.

Dear Brian and Fox.
If I may be allowed to put in my 10c worth.
As per my title : Mac Linux : is simple and clear.
Most people dipping their toes into something other than Windows on their Minis', usually come across Linux first...you know, like Ubuntu....or Fedora or Suse.
Beyond that, I am sure that Fox and I will be able to direct all the other inquiries into the .....
"You want to install WHAT on your computer!!!
Are you crazy....? ......

I support Aqua's suggestion: MacLinux. Simple and people will know what it's about. If we really want to incorporate other flavours of Unix into the title, perhaps something like "Linux and Other OSes on the Mac", but this is more cumbersome. I actually have a folder on each of my computers called MacLinux. Great minds think alike, Aqua (but so do fools).
If we do get a separate Linux/Unix forum, would there be any way to move old posts currently residing in BootCamp into it? _________________ Mini 1: 2.3 ghz Core i5; 8 gb RAM, Corsair 240gb SSD, 500 gb Seagate XT

Mac Linux sounds good Aquafire and Fox. Can you agree on a description for the forum?

I suggest that this forum be used to address all alternative operating systems (i.e., not MacOS, MacOSX or Windows) that can be operated on a G4 or Intel mini. While this forum would mainly be focused on Linux distributions, individuals are welcome to post news, questions and comments on other OSes as well, such as FreeBSD and Open Solaris. The forum is aimed at those running such OSes in single or dual boot modes, or on virtualizing software such as VMware Fusion, Parallels Desktop or VirtualBox.
Note that single or dual boot modes on an Intel mini usually involves installation through BootCamp, but I suggest that if it involves an alternative OS as defined here, it belongs on the MacLinux forum and not the BootCamp forum.
What do others think? _________________ Mini 1: 2.3 ghz Core i5; 8 gb RAM, Corsair 240gb SSD, 500 gb Seagate XT

I agree with Fox.
"Alternate Operating Systems : Linux : Unix : Solaris : Etc"
Sounds about right...

She said to use organic sesame oil on the scar once it's healed over. You can also mix it equally with castor oil. That's what they recommend to their patients. She said that products like Mederma tend to dry the scar out. It's better to keep the site soft and moisturized. Sesame oil is also a good source of Vitamin E, which is known to heal and reduce the redness of scars. _________________ 1.42GHz Mac mini

Thanks for the all the suggestions guys! It sounds like I might be a quart low on oil. I just got the stitches out this morning. The area still looks red, but I think it's healing up nice. _________________ Brian
