Apple Redesigns Support Downloads Section of Website
Tuesday, November 18, 2008
Posted by: Charles
Apple redesigned the Support Downloads section of their website today. The updated section features a new look, layout and search functionality. It also has a new menu that allows users to search for downloads by product type. This includes sections for the iPhone, iPod, Desktop Computers, Portable Computers, Mac OS and Software, Peripherals, Servers and Enterprise Software, and Internet Software. Users can also search for downloads in other languages from the same menu. Overall, I think this is a big improvement from the previous Support Downloads section. What do you think?

I can't recall what the other site was like, but it looks good to me. |

It wasn't anywhere as nice or organized.

I'm pretty sure they will have been designing it for some time and it went live in one day. _________________ MacBook 1.83Ghz C2D, 2GB Ram, 160GB 7200rpm HDD, OS X 10.6.5

You never know, Steve could have been standing behind them with a whip yesterday.
All kidding aside, I wonder how many people work on a project like this? I bet it's not as many as you would think. |

| I think the new downloads site looks a lot better. It's much easier to navigate around and find stuff. I also like that little spotlight the shows what product you're on. I wouldn't doubt that effect gets copied by other websites. |

| I mostly use Software Update these days for updating (other than grabbing the occasional Combo to save time), but that's way more user-friendly. It definitely matches other parts of the site better now. |

Am I the only one who noticed the lack of Mac mini in the "desktop Macs" picture? _________________ Mac mini 2010 (Core 2 Duo 2.4 GHz/8 GiB)

The guy that redesigned the support section took several months.
I think the search works better. I actually found something right away, instead of having to wade through several pages to find the specific item.

That doesn't surprise me the least. Apple always does their best to hide the Mac mini from the public.
I love the new website though. It's easy to find what you're looking for. I'm also with with Smithcraft on search - it works much better now. Plus, you can filter the results by most recent or alphabetically. |
