| I don't consider myself a heavy gamer but I do play occasional FPS - a lot of Unreal Tournament 2004. Can the newest minis handle these types of games? My other computer needs are pretty light duty: internet, word processesing, light photo editing - I think the gaming will be the most strenuous task which is why it's my main concern. |

I haven't tried it yet. Not really a UT2k4 guy, and the UT OS X client is not that great.
However I have a friend who played UT2k4 on his PowerBook, and he said it was good, but he was a master at editing the config file.
Macologist.org might be a good place to check out.

I have UT2004 and it runs pretty darn smoothly. I don't have all the graphics options turned on, but in the heat of battle, does one really need the options turned on? The object is to win the game, not "let's make some eye candy for me". Selfishness is the way to lose on multiplayer games.
Ethics aside, it runs really nice, and I'm using a 1.83 GHz Core 2 Duo mini. Due to the size I have it stored on an external HD though. Try the demo on it first and see what it's like. |

What resolution are you running it at emax4?

I have an old 1.66 Core duo mini with 2 Gigs ram...
Windowed at 1024 X 768
Moderate - high graphic settings
I'm getting low 30 fps for UT2004.
Make sure you'd get the newest universal binary patch. It really makes a difference.
Hope it helps! |
