OK, first the set up.
I have a Apple Time Capsule that I'm using as a wireless router. It has the hard drive built in plus an external attached to it.
In the computer room I have a iMac running Leapard that connects via the built in Wifi N.
In the living room, my Mac mini, running Tiger, is attached via network cable to an airport Express which is also Wifi N.
Everything is on the same network and can see each other perfectly.
When I try to copy files up to the NAS from the Mac Mini things go great. A half gig of data will copy in 5 minutes.
The problem is when I try to use the iMac to access the NAS I get terrible results. Instead of 5 minutes for half a gig it is closer to 50 minutes to copy.
This has been driving me nuts! Anybody else have the same speed issues? What did you do to fix it? I'm frustrated to the point that I'm thinking of running a NIC cable instead of relying on the quirky iMac wifi. |

OK, looks like I'm not the only one with this issue. Finally chased down a work around for this. If you change your default ACK setting from 3 to 0 you get a dramatic speed increase. Things still aren't as fast with Leopard as they are on my old Tiger mini, but it is no longer a 10 to 1 difference like it was before I switched this setting.
