I've got a Seagate 160GB drive (ST316002) in an aluminum external case made by NexStar. It does not look anything like a Mini, it's just a gob standard external drive enclosure.

Just added an external HD to my Mini. I followed homerjatmoes's advice and got the AMS Venus enclosure, and put a Hitachi 250GB 7200RPM IDE drive in it.

XBench score for the internal drive: 22.59
XBench score for the external FireWire drive: 48.11

I can hardly wait to get the system installed on the external drive--probably a weekend project.

How long does it take to clone a drive with Carbon Copy Cloner or SuperDooper?

It depends on a few factors:

1) The speed at which the external drive is connected
2) The speed of the drive you are copying
3) The speed of the drive you are writing to
4) Most importantly, the amount of data you are copying

When I copied a nearly full 160GB hard drive over Firewire to an external Western Digital 320GB drive using SuperDuper it seemed to take nearly 2 hours. I think there was 145GB total data.

Thanks Ranter.

I basically wanted an idea of how long it would take. Picaman's post kind of made me think it was a more lengthy process.

Well it had better not take all weekend Shocked Laughing

Seriously, I just meant that I wouldn't have time until then. Sorry for the confusion.

Based on the info in this thread I'm going to reinstall Tiger on the new drive and migrate everything over, rather than just using CCC/SuperDuper. And that will probably take some time to do.
