Apple Releases Security Update 2008-007

Apple has released Security Update 2008-007 for Leopard and Tiger (PPC) via its Software Update utility and on the Web. According to the company, Security Update 2008-007 is recommended for all users and improves the security of Mac OS X. All previous security updates have been incorporated into this security update. You can read more about the security contents of Security Update 2008-007 here. The update for Leopard weighs in at 31MB and requires Mac OS X 10.5.5. The updates for Tiger require Mac OS X 10.4.11.

Don't ask me why, but Safari feels significantly slower for me after this update. It's constantly beachballing.  |

I think my Safari works well, my FireFox is slow though. ...but I don't know if it's suppose to be? |

I don't think so. The latest version of Firefox 3.0.3 feels very fast to me. Is there something that specifically feels slow?

The time it takes to start up the program is slower than Safari. After it starts up, which takes like 14 seconds, it works well. I don't really mind, it's just a few seconds. ...It can also be cause its a MacBook Air. |

Yeah, that's probably just a by-product of the slower HDD in the MacBook Air. Unless it started after this update. Firefox 3 takes like 4-5 seconds to open on my Intel Mac mini cold. It's just a tad slower on the G4 and G5.

| Anybody else experience any hardware problems? My DVD player worked about 5 days before the security update because I had to do a reinstall of Leopard. I did the update and now the DVD player just ejects DVD's after about 30 seconds of trying to read. I can't burn CD's anymore either. The Genius bar said I had to replace the optical drive. I don't believe them. Help? |

I doubt this update is blame. It's probably just a coincidence. Maybe the drive got pressed during the Leopard and just failed. I would tend to believe the people at the Apple store if they really checked it out good.
