Apple Holding Notebook Event on October 14th
Thursday, October 9, 2008
Posted by: Glenn
Apple will be holding a special media event on Tuesday, October 14th. The event will take place at Apple's headquarters in Cupertino at 10:00 AM PST. The invitations for the event simply read: "The spotlight turns to notebooks," so I think it's safe to say that we'll be seeing new MacBooks across the board next week.

Not likely, but they could sneak something in or lower prices. Rumor has it the new MacBooks will start at $800 dollars. I can't see Apple keeping a dated Mac mini at the same $800 price point. That just wouldn't be fair. Then again, maybe they'll just get rid of it all together. If they do, I'm tempted to buy one of those new Dell Hybrids with a Blu-ray drive. I'm just tired of waiting around for a better Mac mini for HTPC. Apple is slowly losing me when it comes to desktops. |

That would be awesome. I sure would like to have an aluminum MacBook for around $800. I mean as long as it comes with a DVD burner and decent size hard drive. Apple really needs to stop with the Combo drives. This is 2008! |

I hope Apple doesn't come out with a hot little netbook for under six bills. I just bought an Asus 1000H a couple weeks ago.
Actually, that would be cool. They need more systems that sale for under a grand. I've been saying this for a long time. Plus, my wife would instantly get the Asus 1000H as a hand-me-down. _________________ 1.25GHz Mac Mini / 1.8GHz iMac G5 / 2.0GHz C2D Mac mini (2009)

"One more thing...
Since we now have a 800$ laptop, we can't have a 600~800$ desktop now, can we?
Say good-bye Mac mini, hello Mac nano! The first model is only 400$, and for 100$ more you get more RAM, a better processor and a bigger hard drive."
Well, that would be cool, anyway. _________________ Mac mini 2010 (Core 2 Duo 2.4 GHz/8 GiB)

| I'd really like to see a new MacBook Pro since I'll be in the market for one in the near future. |

I think you're going to be in luck. I just hope they continue on with matte screens for when I upgrade down the road. |

I just bought a 1000h about a month ago. It suites me just fine. If Apple does come out with a netbook in the same price range, my jaw will drop. Likely I will still keep the 1000h as it meets my travel needs. |

I have been following this rumor for a few weeks. GREAT that it is going to come true. Come on GPU processing!!!! Ok I'm dreaming about the last part. But let's hope to get some Nasty NIVIDA cards in there. _________________ MacMini 2.0GHz C2D (2009)

Thats great!!! I like that.
Think this is going to make me glad I got a blackbook when I did. I like the look of the black ones better than what it looks like is going to replace it. _________________ Mercury TiBook 400MHz, 1GB RAM, 120GB HD, Airport

Yeah, I doubt they'll have anything in same price range. Don't get me wrong, I love my 1000H. It's a really cool little laptop with excellent build quality. I would just rather have something running OS X than Windows XP. I'm not hurry either way though. One word, recession.

I would be shocked to seem them release an $800 model with a dedicated GPU, but that would be really sweet. I'm thinking they may use a dedicated GPU to differentiate the upper end MacBook from the lower end model at that price.
