Posted by: Glenn
Apple today introduced the second generation iPod touch featuring an thin contoured metal design, a 3.5-inch widescreen glass display, 802.11 b/g Wi-Fi wireless networking, integrated volume control buttons, a built-in speaker for casual listening, a built-in accelerometer and other advanced sensors, and Apple's revolutionary Multi-Touch user interface. The new iPod touch is available immediately for a suggested price of $229 for the 8GB model, $299 for the 16GB and $399 for the 32 GB model through the Apple Store.

| I wish the 1G touch would have included a speaker, but I guess thats what my iPhone is for now. I think they could have done better with the pricing, but it's a nice update. It's a shame they still make you pay for updates though. |

| I think Apple should have gone with a brushed metal back. I bet this one is even more slippery than the first one because of its tapered shape. It's also the same old a fingerprint magnet. I like that they added an external speaker though. I wish that mine had one. |

Most of the feature list in the announcement are the same for the older version, so what's changed?
Price, external speaker, styling and rated battery life. Anything else? |

And you can still have it in any colour - so long as it's black. _________________ "You must control your future by taking command of your present, and fixing and learning from your past."

| I ask because I've been thinking about getting one of these. The external speaker isn't important to me - as long as it is still able to beep alarms and the like (can it?). The battery life seems to be down to the 2.1 update. That just leaves the styling... to be weighed against getting a 16GB refurb for less than the price of a new 8Gb. |

| I think shake to shuffle is new, and so is the integrated nike+ dongle (you still need the shoe doohickey though). |

I find it pretty incredible that a company which takes such pride in the beauty of its user interfaces would have incorporated 'shake-to-shuffle' in a product. It's so lame... _________________ Intel Mini 2.0GHz C2D (4GB/120GB/SuperDrive/10.5.8 ), 120GB WD Passport, Logitech ergo k/b

The original version has an accelerometer, so presumably shake to shuffle is software too.
Hmm, bluetooth. |

Incredibly lame. iPod touch users should be able to shake their groove thing too. |
