|
|
Can someone guide me in the right direction, so I can choose a CPU for my upgrade. What socket do I need for my Mini - socket M, but does that mean all C2D T7** CPU's or are the some T7** that will not fit - I saw one of the posts here one the forum about CPU's that has been fitted with pins to fit the Mini.
I have seen a CPU with the following specs, will that fit - what are the specs that I need for look for??
Intel Core™ 2 Duo T7400 mobile processor
Specifications
Dual-Core Mobile Technology
Enhanced Intel Speedstep Tehnology
Operating voltage: 1.0375-1.3000V
sSpec number: SL9SE
CPU Speed: 2.16GHz
L2 Cache: 4 MB
Micro-FCPGA
667 MHz FSB
34W TDP

T7200, T7400, and T7600 will work (2, 2.16, and 2.33 respectively). The Macmini uses Socket M, so if you are not sure ask the vendor to see if it will work with a Socket M computer.
The T7400 with SL9SE will work as that particular processor has the Micro FCPGA.
The T7X00 processors come in two different packages, the processor is the same, but some are meant to be soldered on the board FCBGA (to reduct the space requirement on some of the smaller platforms, and the other type is meanto to be socketed (Socket M) FCPGA. FCPGA is the one that works on our minis. Some vendors will install the pins on the FCBGA chips and these will work as well (it's what happened with my T7600). The 5 digit code (SL9SE) is called S-Spec and you can lookup what the chip is on intel's website. it will display what package type it is, which is what you need to know to see if it will work with a Mini. |

Just wondering what about the T7300 CPU with 4MB cache and 800mhz FSB?
Or does it have to be the T7200/T7400/T7600 models?
Thanks in advance |

| The mini is 667MHz FSB, so remember the T7300 if it did would would run at 1.66GHz. |

| Wouldn't work anyway, the new 800Mhz FSB processors use the Santa Rosa chipset with has a new socket for the chips (socket P), the minis use the older Socket M based on the Napa Platform. |

I'm a bit confused about SL9SE and FCPGA. I'm looking at a T7600 which is an SL9SD. Will this work as a replacement for my 1.83 C2D?
here is other info on the chip
sSpec Number: SL9SD
CPU Speed: 2.33GHZ
PCG:
Bus Speed: 667MHZ
Bus/Core Ratio: 14
L2 Cache Size: 4M
L2 Cache Speed:2.33GHZ
Package Type: Micro-FCPGA
Manufacturing Technology: 65nm
Core Stepping: 0OX6F6
CPUID String: 34W
Thermal Design Power:1.03-1.3V
Technology:B2
Dual Core
Enhanced Intel Speedstep® Technology
Intel® EM64T 1
Intel® Virtualization Technology

the package is also sometimes refered to as a socket 479 mPGA |

| Some enterprising vendors are installing pins on the SL9SE version (my upgrade used one of these) and they work flawlessly provided the vendor did a professional job. I bought mine from some guy in Hong Kong, the CPU arrived in like 3 days and I had no issues at all. If you find an SL9SE for sale, make sure you ask if it has the pins installed, otherwise, you'll have a chip you can't use on your Mini. |
