| I'm still waiting to do the Mac mini shuffle. Meaning use this one for HTPC and get another one for everyday computing. So yeah, hurry up Mr. Jobs! And get it through your head. I don't want an iMac. |

HDD: SSD, 2.5" or better yet 3.5" - 7200rpm. |
Apple would never put 3.5' 7200 rpm hdds in the mini, because the mini only fits 2.5' drives, can i cant imagine them making the mini bigger, just to put in a 3.5' hdd _________________ powerbook g4 15" 1.5ghz backlit keyboard, 80gb 768mb

True, but I'm all for them doing so. I mean as long as the noise levels stay in check. |

I don't get all the "I'm waiting for the new one"...
What's it going to be? 15% faster?
I seriously doubt I'll be buying a replacement anytime before Snow Leopard... |

Me either! I bought an iMac when the first switched to Intel. It shipped with OS 10.4.4. I'm now happily running OS10.5.4 and it still accomplishes all my daily tasks with no issues.
Nearly 2 years of fun and amazement without pulling my hair out "waiting". _________________ Automotive Digital Marketing

I will buy one of the current C2D Mac minis if you guys spot me the money. I guarantee you that a new Mac mini will be out within three weeks after I receive it. That also puts it right past the return period. It always happens to me. |

| My G4 mini is still running great, but the video is a little slow so I am looking to upgrade it sometime. I would like a more current chipset and better video, or a price drop for the current specs, so I am playing the waiting game. But if Steve kills off the mini or black friday rolls around before an update, then I'll a) pick up a cheap used/refurb and wait for 10.6 or b) I'll upgrade the ram in my current mini and then upgrade the chipset, etc. in an old XP machine and load it with linux. Option B means the mini will become a jukebox (can't function without my ipod), and I'll use the linux box for day-to-day stuff. |

You never know...anything's possible. I don't really see any problem with the Mini becoming a little larger. There's no need to make a Mac Air Mini, after all it is not a portable. Anyway, here's to hoping we hear something in September. |

Its more complex than that. A 3.5" HDD uses considerably more power than a 2.5". It will generate more heat, so require more cooling, which will require a fan that needs more power. So you could now need a bigger power brick and have a noisier box. With 2.5" drives now hitting 500GB and 7200RPM there seems very little need to go to all that re-engineering trouble. Especially given they can tack on mini HDD quantities to their MB and MBP drive orders - which are probably way bigger than the iMac qtys. |

Good point, that number has to be way larger. It also gives them a chain of command for upgrades and outlet for leftover drives. |

| I just bought a refurb 1.83 GHz (I hope). If the new MM does come out this month, I'll have the option of a return (within the 14 + 14 return policy). If not, I'll have a nice machine at a nice price and some operating time in the interim to evaluate whether I need the latest and greatest version. This will be one of three computers in the house, but the only Mac. |

15% faster would be great in my books but what I'm hoping for from the next Mini:
CPU: Yes, faster performance but more importantly the 45nm wafer will bring lower power and heat.
Memory: More than 3GB support in the current Mini. 4GB please!
HDD: Atleaset 7,200 rpm please! And the option for SSD.
Video: GMA X4500 if they are going to stick with Intel. Otherwise Radeon with minimum dedicated 256MB please (No Nvidia please - since their recent chip trouble).
Chassis/case: A bit of a refresh here please. Sexy it up a bit more. |
