iMove is a new transportable workstation for the Mac mini. You can now bring your display, keyboard, mouse and accessories all along for the ride. Ok, maybe it's not as sexy as a PowerBook, but it still looks pretty darn cool. iMove has adjustable pegs to lock all your gear into place. The workstation itself is made out of acrylic plastic and measures 18.97" wide X 17.63" tall X 7.67" deep. You have your choice of transparent, semitransparent blue, semitransparent green or semitransparent pink colors. iMove also comes with a blue bag to cover everything up. Pricing for the iMove is € 96 or approximately US$117.

Very interesting product and timely introduction for me personally. Now I wonder if this is acceptible as airline carry on luggage? (Can't see myself checking it in-no way) I may be traveling soon, however, I am trying my best to fit a new iBook in my budget-like this week. My other alternative is to take my laptop PC (not-I am soooo hooked on my mini). It appears that my monitor's base is not detachable-hp pavilion f1703. Anyway, I am sure that iMove will work for some folks.

No, you really do save a little. I woldn't buy a laptop without Applecare because if anything goes wrong with the laptop screen it's pretty much a matter of sending it back to Apple... the screens aren't commodity and they're not cheap. The iMove is more robust... if something breaks you can replace it.

I developed iMove in order to answer to a precise requirement: working everywhere with my desktop computer. In fact I don't like notebooks to much, I'm an engineer and I often design for many hours a day using a big sheet format. When I work I need a big enough monitor (at least a 19"), a big and comfortable keyboard and a "mighty" mouse. There's another thing I don't like to do: worrying about to battery. When the Mac mini came out I realized it was the computer I needed for my personal transportable workstation. Hence I developed and built iMove which let's you easily a 19 or 20" monitor inside.

Question: what can you do with iMove?

You can't:
- use it instead of a notebook;
- use it in your car, in train or in airplane;

You can:
- use it as a comfortable and big workstation easily transportable from place to place (for example office, home, hotel, etc.);
- transport it in your car without problems, anchoring it to the security belts
- use it in order to keynote at reunions;
- last but not least, personalize it with external devices such as hard disks, speakers, etc.

The price is very reasonable.

I work in the oilfield setting-up the instrumentation/computer network/communications on drilling rigs.

We currently use laptops for workstations. This works well, but some complain of the 15" screen size and we have a number of harddrives fail. They run 24/7.

This design would not be adequate for our needs, as it would need to be more protective, but the idea of a small portable workstation is great.

Too bad we have to run PC's.
