|
|
Alright, I am now completely confused. Apple debuts a networkable device with a subpar ethernet connection? I am in the middle of re doing my network and was at the 10/100 VS. 10/100/1000 crossroad when I thought:
"Well, what ever the ATV has is what I should go with"
Then I went to Apple's site and found this:
| Apple wrote: |
Ports and interfaces
HDMI (video and audio)7
Component video
Optical audio
Analog RCA stereo audio
10/100BASE-T Ethernet
USB 2.0
802.11n wireless networking6
Built-in IR receiver (works with included Apple Remote) |
Is it just me or hasn't Apple been using Gigabit Ethernet for some time now? What gives on the inferior networking on a brand new device intended for use on a network!!!
My brain hurts. _________________ Automotive Digital Marketing

Yeah, that always bummed me out, but at least it has 802.11n. I have a feeling that most people are using it wirelessly anyways. I don't have an ethernet cable or jack close to my home entertainment system. _________________ 1.25GHz Mac Mini / 1.8GHz iMac G5 / 2.0GHz C2D Mac mini (2009)

max Blu ray bit rate is 40 mbps
100bT enet is 100 mbps
Apple TV is 100 mbps
that is enough bandwidth to handle two full resolution Blu ray streams. So, full duplex 100bT = 2 full Blu ray streams in and 2 full streams out.
You break it down to iTMS HD bitrates (around 5 mbps) and all of a sudden that is 20 streams... |

Quite right.
My point was more that Apple has been using Gigabit Ethernet on everything else so it seemed strange they would bring a new device to market with a slower wired networking capability. While I understand that it is "enough", It is unlike Apple to take a "step backward", especially when it comes to user ports. _________________ Automotive Digital Marketing

Perhaps they're trying to slowly edge away from wired networking, as Apple's always been really big on wireless networking.
Maybe they should offer some kind of "buy an ATV and get a discount on an airport router" deal.
