.avi to iPod?

So what's a good program that I can convert .avi video files into something my iPod can play?

I use Switch on my Mac. The paid-for version will output to a number of formats, but the free version only outputs to MP3. So that might be all that you need.

There's also an online convertor here: http://media-convert.com/
I have used it in the past, although the control buttons are difficult to spot amongst all of the ads. It's clunky but it works.

JohnnyBoy, I believe the OP is looking for a VIDEO converter.

I use VisualHub. It converts darn near everything to many different formats. My all time favorite fall back app is FFmpegX.

You have to pay for both of these but they are, IMHO, by far the best out there.

Thanks for the suggestions, hackersmovie, I'll have to check them out. Are there any free programs out there that work halfway decent?

edit-

Regarding the two programs hackersmovie mentioned.. So can I convert a TV/Movie DVD into an iPod file or do I need a whole other program for that?

I know that ipod only supports video formats like mp4, mov and m4v. So you may need to convert avi to ipod by some video converter.
Besides, handbrake is a free tool that you can use it.

Vote another for Handbrake, iPod reads mp4 or m4v file, just convert avi to mp4 on mac.
Handbrake has options (presets) to convert avi files to iPod and other Apple products.
