So it will not come with a firewire cable? you think they will have that option in the future?

From what I've read, you can't sync it over firewire. It will charge with the firewire adapter, but not sync. Apple is really moving their iPods to USB2 only.

How utterly Japanese to immediately take one apart.

Domo Arrigoto for the link!

Way overpriced. I was hoping that getting away from spinning hard drives would have lowered the cost.

When did you order yours?

I have to agree. I know it's not as sexy as the nano but the 20GB iPod is still the best deal. You are paying 14.95 per gigabyte with the 20GB iPod compared to 62.25 per gigbyte with the 4GB iPod nano. That being said, I still wouldn't mind having one. Laughing

I'm holding out for the 5G iPods.

I ordered mine yesterday at 12PM PDT. I thought there'd be a chance that they'd actually ship the day of ordering, but I was apparently thinking of NewEgg.com, not Apple. Very Happy

Still shows "Processing..." as of an hour ago.

Patience, patience.

And FWIW, the banter on one of the other sites is that the memory used in the nano costs a lot more than the harddrive that was in the mini, so Apple's actually lowering its profit margin on the new nanos (vs. the old minis).

So what I seem to hear from everywhere is. You cant boot from it. It uses a windows file structure. and its usb only to sync. Anyone else wondering why apple made a windows media player? Think I'll go pick up a mini before they all run out of stock. Granted the thing looks glorious, but I think I like the feature set in the older version.

How dare you call an iPod a WMP! The reason they have USB and a win oranising system ( Can't you format it Mac with a Mac? And still, a windows system works works on eithere Win or Mac ) is because most iPod users are probably soon-to-be Mac users, more commonly known as Windows users. I don't think firewire is as popular on Win than on Mac.

So what feature besides booting isn't in the nano?

The linked website has some good info. They are identifying most chips (like the lcd controller) and shows a good picture of the two Samsung 2G memory chips. The wiring of the lithium ion battery are soldered in place, it's not going to be as easy to replace by end users as the previous iterations.

Where did you read that? That would be bad news.

You can see that the battery leads are soldered by looking at the photos at the URL Blazer provided earlier in this thread.
