Apple Releases AppleTV 2.1 Update
Thursday, July 10, 2008
Posted by: Glenn
Apple released the 2.1 update for the Apple TV this morning. The update adds support for MobileMe, iTunes 7.7, and the new Remote application for the iPhone and iPod touch being offered in the App Store. The Remote application works with your Wi-Fi network, so you can control playback from anywhere in and around you home. You can download and learn more about this application here.

I'm stoked about the remote working with the Apple TV. I can't wait to get the ball rolling tomorrow. _________________ 1.25GHz Mac Mini / 1.8GHz iMac G5 / 2.0GHz C2D Mac mini (2009)

I like my HD rentals thank you very much. But to each their own. Love that I will now have control over my AppleTV from the iPhone I will be getting tomorrow. |

Me too! It also looks pretty slick. I just watched a little video of it working on Gizmodo.

Nice find, I wish it was showing him using it with the AppleTV with videos. At least now with music we don't need to turn on the HDTV to see the menus to select what we want to hear, just turn on the surround sound system and select from the iPhone's screen |

That looks fantastic in action. It appears to be much faster than Remote Buddy. I'm sold! How much does it cost again? _________________ 1.42GHz Mac mini

Awesome, I hoped the iPhone could be used to control Apple TV. _________________ MacBook 1.83Ghz C2D, 2GB Ram, 160GB 7200rpm HDD, OS X 10.6.5

This might have just eliminated the TV from Apple TV.
I mostly use mine for music and podcasts anyways. It should also save some wear and tear on my Panny plasma. That's another good thing. _________________ 1.25GHz Mac Mini / 1.8GHz iMac G5 / 2.0GHz C2D Mac mini (2009)

That's when I should have moved instead of fumbling and bumbling around. They are worth way less money today. Especially with the price drop and onslaught of refurbs. Oh well, live and learn. |

Picked up my iPhone 3G this morning. The remote app is awesome. If you sold your AppleTV I would get it back just to use this app |

I got up a little late this morning. AT&T was sold out by the time I got there.
Oh well, the sales rep said they should be getting more in by mid-week.
It's cool hearing the app works well. Did anything surprise you with how it works with the Apple TV? _________________ 1.25GHz Mac Mini / 1.8GHz iMac G5 / 2.0GHz C2D Mac mini (2009)

It's made me want to keep mine around for a little longer. If for nothing else, to stream audio to my main stereo (Apple TV is connected to da big speakers) while using the Remote app. This also allows me to control the volume. You can do that on the Apple TV side of things. And hey, it's just fun to play around with. |

Are you guys able to get album art to show up on the Remote application's now showing screen? I can't get anything to show up there. The same stuff seems to work fine when it's connected to iTunes. Do you think this is a bug? I would really like it to work. |
