Apple tonight announced the launch date and time for its MobileMe service. According to a notification sent out to .Mac users, "as part of the MobileMe launch .Mac will be taken offline from 6pm to 12am PT on Wednesday, July 9th. Members will be unable to access www.mac.com or any .Mac services during this time with the exception of .Mac Mail accessed via a desktop application, iPhone, or iPod touch. MobileMe will be available as soon as possible during this maintenance window." The MobileMe service is priced at $99 a year.

I only have one concern about MobileMe. I hope Apple improves on the uptime and reliability over .Mac. The addition of all of these iPhone 3G and Windows users has me worried. So here's hoping they seriously upgraded the backend! _________________ 14" 1.25GHz G4 iBook (died)

| The Apple store has been down for the last two hours. I hope this means they are shipping out the MobileMe boxes a little earlier than planned. |

lame lame lame....
To spend $99.99 a year for a networking client to network your laptop iphone and other apple products to each other lame i can just use the networking functions inside mac os x leopard and transfer everything into my other macs for free there are already ton's of app's for mac that do this already and there free so why pay $99.99. |

I kindly disagree. First off, you can do better than $99 dollars if you look around. You can also buy MobileMe for $69 dollars when you buy a new Mac or iPhone 3G. Secondly, I believe that MobileMe will make my life easier. I don't want to spend a bunch of time keeping all of my stuff in sync. Plus, none of those free services or apps will integrate together as nicely as MobileMe. I also think this is just the beginning of MobileME with SproutCore, but that's really another subject.
It also looks like the Apple store is back online. I don't really see anything new. MobileMe still hasn't shipped out. |

The update is available again as MobileMe version 1.1. Click on the .mac icon in System Preferences and you should get prompted to install the updates. _________________ Mac Pro Quad 2.66GHz, PowerMac G5 2.3 GHz, iMac Core Duo 17", MacBook Pro 2GHz, MacBook Pro 2.2GHz, Mac mini Core 2 Duo 1.83GHz.
