OSXBMC Changes Name to Plex
Monday, July 7, 2008
Posted by: Brian
It looks like guys over at OSXBMC changed their name to Plex over the 4th of July holiday weekend. They also went and released version 0.5.0b10 of their popular media center software for Mac OS X Leopard. The latest release includes a slew of fixes and improvements. I would highly suggest that you give it a try, if you haven't already. As a friend recently reminded me, OSXBMC (make that Plex) truly is the hottest thing going on in media center software for the Mac.

I'm not crazy about the new name, but the software is fantastic. _________________ 1.42GHz Mac mini

OSXBMC + the AEON skin = true Bliss.
It's amazing the work they've done on this port. I can only see it getting better with the new name and attention. |

| yea i have to agree this is the most stable front end for video music and weather it really puts front row to shame on several fronts but without the option of being able to use your itunes playlists inside xbmc it really is lacking one important feature. |

I've been meaning to give it a try. It sounds like an awesome media center app for OS X. I like Front Row, but the other ones like Mediacentral and Centerstage were pretty lame. _________________ 1.66GHz, 1.83GHz and 2.0GHz Mac minis

Now this is exciting!

I always liked the Eye Candy of CS and it looks like it will finally be getting a decent back end.
Will be watching this one! _________________ Intel 2.4Ghz/4G Ram/1TB HDD/Server MacMini

That is exciting news. I thought that project was basically dead. _________________ 1.42GHz Mac mini

| Holy Sh*t! That IS exciting! I've been waiting for OSXBMC to be ironed out enough to switch over from FR, and it looks like this may be the incentive for it to happen. |

so I decided to get back on the OSXBMC (sorry Plex) bus again and I still know what I am doing!
I really like the concep and the demo vids etc of Plex But I cannot find a Plex for dummies how to guide?
Any Plex users out there know where I can find this? I have read all the guides on the plex site etc but I must be missing something very simple (or maybe I am just a dumb dumb) because I just cannot make it work like all the demo's.
I do like the AEON Skin though, that truly is what I expect my HTPC to be. _________________ Intel 2.4Ghz/4G Ram/1TB HDD/Server MacMini

I've seen a FAQ, but not really a guide. What are you having trouble with?

Yeah I saw the FAQ, and trawled the forums, but I think I am missing something simple that is assumed in all the doco's I read.
I do think I am getting closer though, I decided to spend the time today and one of the issues was that it was all looking a lot more like folders then eye candy, then I realized there is the 'file' and 'library' views and then also worked out how to use the context menu/scrapers etc.
Anyway, now the issue is iTunes integration, I have not spent years of ratings/play count and smart playlists etc to lose it, I believe the iTunesFS project fixes this but I can't d/l it because it seems the site has been taken offline?
Anyone got a torrent/http link for it other then
