Hey guys,
I know Apple's now really getting into wireless stuff, especially with their wi-fi base stations. I was just wondering, if any of you have an AirPort Express/Extreme or Time Capsule, what are your thoughts about them? Pros/Cons?
Also, what do you guys think about Time Machine?

I recently got a Airport Extreme Base Station. I was replacing a WRT54G Linksys router.
All I can say is that my DL speeds have dramatically increased, my internet connection rarely gets lost, and I now hove zero problems downloading torrents.
Also, it's super easy to configure and has a great range. If you're on an all Apple network, I wouldn't consider getting anything else.
Not only that, it has the "cool" factor as it sits perfectly on top of my HTPC mini in the living room.
I would think that Time Capsule would be the same. From what I can see it's just a AEBS with a hard drive inside. Unfortunatly I don't have one so I can't give you a good opinion on it.

Yeah, I've heard quite a lot of good things about the extreme, though the same can't be said of the express......
Have you tried using the USB printer or USB hard drive function that comes with the Extreme?

AEBS
Pros
- Fast and stable.
- Fantastic range.
- AirDisk and printer sharing work beautifully.
- It's small in size like the Mac mini.
- It's stylish as far as routers go.
- It has a small external power supply with a nice size cable.
- Super easy to set up.
Cons
- The green LED on the front is bright.
- It runs very warm when pushed.
- It only has three Ethernet ports.
- AirDisk speeds are a little on the slow side.
- Can't access or configure it through a browser.
- Time Machine backups with AirDisk aren't officially supported.
- It's a little overpriced compared to other routers out there.
I had a Time Capsule for a day or two, but returned it. It was running much warmer than my AEBS. That was enough to scare me off. Plus, the wireless range was a tad weaker. |

It is something I have been meaning to try out, but I just haven't had a practical to reason yet.

I'm running an aebs with attached hard drive and a small photo printer. All works well. The HD is configured to be my MacBook Pro's time machine, and works fine whether the MBP is up on the lan via wireless N or ethernet.
The last firmware upgrade did cause a need to redo the aebs setup and also the setup on my ae wireless airtunes bricks which I use to stream music throughtout the house. All is working fine now.
