iMac (2008) disc drive errors

I just bought a 20" iMac a month ago, and i'm having some issues with the drive. I have been using handbrake to import all my dvd's to itunes for use with apple TV. It's been working fine, but i've stepped it up to overdrive doing all 10 seasons of Friends.

Upon starting with season 2 of friends, after one episode was done, i started the second episode and the drive started making some weird noises, and then handbrake said the cocktail was done, even though the file it produced was miniscule at 7kb. It failed. Why? I called tech support and they had me do a full restart unplugged. That worked for a day, and now its happened again.

Thoughts? This happen to anyone else? I know it isn't the dvd's problem, because if i restart that same episode that failed will work.
