Logitech today unveiled the QuickCam Vision Pro webcam for Mac with a Carl Zeiss autofocusing lens. The new USB 2.0 webcam works with iChat, Photo Booth, iMovie and Skype, and features a 2-megapixel image sensor. It's capable of recording video at 720p resolution and uses RightLight 2 technology, which, according to Logitech, automatically adjusts the webcam's settings to produce better pictures in low-light settings or in areas of uneven light. The black and silver webcam also features a built-in microphone. The Logitech QuickCam Vision Pro webcam for Mac is expected to be available in the U.S. and Europe beginning in July. The suggested retail price in the U.S. is $129.99.

I'm using the Logitech QuickCam Pro 9000 with my setup. It essentially looks and sounds the same as this cam feature wise. I'm hoping that Logitech posts special software for this new model because it might be able to use it with mine as well. The QuickCam Pro 9000 works ok, but it lacks the ability to make adjustments without using iGlasses. There's also no way to adjust the RightLight 2 stuff like you can in Windows.

$129? Pass. I guess it's a generational thing--I have no burning desire to play videophone and I doubt anyone else is gonna wanna see my mug (it might [read: will] break their monitor).

This sounds nice, but I still wish that Apple made the iSight. Or better yet, jammed one in a Cinema display.

I'm buying one if the reviews are good and it comes with the software for making proper adjustments. That's all I know.

Hmm, the only hardware difference between the QuickCam Pro 9000 looks like the the light on the front (9000 == Orange / Vision == White). I will definitely keep my eyes peeled for the Mac software for the Vision. It certainly does seem like they are just getting a Mac tax for essentially the same hardware.

Logitech is on my no buy list.
My experience is their products may work as advertised if you have the "perfect" setup according to them, but the first time you upgrade your OS or QT is upgraded, they leave you hanging as they don't release fully functional upgrades... or none at all.

The QuickCam I bought years ago never "just worked" as advertised and now I must use 3rd party drivers to get it to work... sort of.

My iSights (external and internal) just work.

I think this product looks good but the the Apple iSight looks and likely performs better. I would seriously consider sourcing a used iSight before I would buck up $129 for a USB device. I'd also consider a handy cam for that kind of money.

I have a QCFusion, looks basically the same, different microphonespot, maybe a better lens, but still I get compliments for a very good picture. I saw a friend of mine with a recent iMac though and his picture and sound were horrible, maybe his connection wasn't that great, I don't know...

Well, it doesn't look like there will be specific software or drivers for the RightLight 2 stuff or making adjustments. The support page for the QuickCam Vision Pro now states: "This product uses native driver support on a Mac. No Logitech Mac Software is available or required."

I would just buy the QuickCam Pro 9000 if you like the looks of this camera gang. I would also pick up a copy of iGlasses for making a few minor adjustments. That's about as good as it gets.
