LaCie today announced LaCie Remote Burn software for both its Portable DVD±RW with LightScribe, Design by Sam Hecht and d2 DVD±RW with LightScribe drives for FireWire. With LaCie Remote Burn, users can take full advantage of these burners from any Mac located on a local network. According to the company, Remote Burn can easily burn files with simple drag and drop, while automatically calculating the type of DVD/CD needed. When ready to burn, the software sends data across the network to selected computers with attached LaCie burners. You just need a Mac running Mac OS X 10.4 or later and a network connection.

This sounds neat, but man those drives are crazy expensive.

A little off topic, but it would be neat if you could use the DVD/CD sharing in Leopard with all Macs. I think you can only use it with the MacBook Air at the moment. Am I wrong?

LaCie products are well built. They are more geared towards professionals. Although more expensive than most, they are still good value. Firewire is a nice touch.

Often you will find LaCie drives bundled with Toast Lite. If you need Toast, that in itself pretty much evens out the price of the drive.

I got Toast 8 Lite with my Elgato tuner not long ago. Do you think they could knock off about $50 bucks?

No doubt, LaCie makes some nice stuff. I still think those drives are a little on the expensive side. Even with the included software. I wish they still made those mini drives for the Mac mini though. I'd like a second and they are getting hard to find.

Not really by the way just because lacie says it only works for there drives doesn't mean thats true considering all the lacie lightscribe software works on any lightscribe drive not just lacies.
