Mac Mini Test Drive
Tuesday August 30, 2005
Apple has started a new promotion for customers to "Test drive a Mac mini" for 30 days with no risk. If you purchase a Mac mini between August 30, 2005, and October 31, 2005, Apple will allow you to evaluate any combination of a Mac Mini, a keyboard and a mouse under its "Test drive a Mac mini" program.
Apple - "Your Mac mini includes more than a dozen full-featured applications for emailing, instant messaging, browsing and more. And it comes with Apple's award-winning iLife '05 digital media programs. You can make home movies, edit and print photos, burn custom mix CDs, even compose your own music. Best of all, everything runs on top of Mac OS X Tiger, the world's most advanced, stable, easy-to-use operating system.
We're so confident you'll love your new Mac mini, we'll let you test drive it for 30 days with no risk. If you decide you don't want it, we'll take it back. Here's how the test drive works:
1.) Purchase a new Mac mini from the Apple Store online. You can also get an Apple keyboard and mouse, such as our new Mighty Mouse.
2.) Set it up and start enjoying it.
3.) If you don't love it, call us within 30 days of your order and we'll arrange for you to return your system including the Apple keyboard and mouse for a full refund."

[Updated] Apple has canceled its free Mac mini test drive promo, which the company had launched on its website yesterday. The Apple online store no longer lists the 30-day money-back-guarantee offer, which allowed users to try the entry-level Mac mini without any risk.

I guess this means no new Mac minis until November. |

| I wonder if this is an indicator that they are not moving the quantities they hoped. |

If so, why only run the promo for one month _________________ 1.42GHz Mac mini / 1GB DDR / 80GB HD / Panasonic UJ-845-B 8X DL DVD±RW / 10.4 "Tiger"

I just received an email from Linkshare that says Apple is pulling the promo. I'm going to look further into it, though... _________________ It's my fault Black Leaf died! |

It looks like they really have pulled the plug on it. All of the banners have changed and there are no references to it on Apple's site. At first I thought that maybe somebody was playing a joke on me, but the email definitely came from LinkShare. _________________ It's my fault Black Leaf died! |

Wacky! I bet someone gets fired over this one. Although, they did get a lot of free press. _________________ 1.42GHz Mac mini

I don't understand this one at all. Apple legal must have put the kibosh on this promotion for some reason. How can you announce something and pull it 24 hours later? Very strange indeed. _________________ 2.4GHz MacBook Pro/4GB/320GB HD

Hmmm....an unexpected, mercurial decision - I sense the hand of Steve in this. |

Between this and the Mac mini's lackluster update a few weeks ago you have to wonder how much love Apple has for the mini. |

| I just hope that it isn't turning into another Cube (saleswise) for the company. |

I don't think it will (the cube was seriously overpriced) but even if it does I don't really care. I've got mine and it has served its purpose. I'm hooked. At this point, my next machine will almost certainly be another Mac. _________________ 2.0GHz Intel Core 2 Duo

I don't think that is the case at all. Early reports say the campaign may have been too successful. Although, ZDNet reports the promotion may have been launched because Apple is not happy with how Mac mini sales a going.
