Just curious, assuming you could have a slightly upgraded memory card (GMA x1300 or whatever the heck is next) and maybe 4 gigs of ram. Please explain why you chose Yes or No.

It'll be a great little power house wouldn't it Though i'm not sure if i would buy it, i need a portable for A levels, so i wouldn't get far with a Mini It could solve the issue about Mac Pros being expensive, instead get a Quad Mini, a perfect solution for some people. _________________ - MacBook Pro, 15inch, 2.4GHz, 2GB, 160GB HDD, SuperDrive. Yes, because it would be an easy unassuming little beast. Like having a Honda Civic with 600bhp. Plus it would be cheaper than a Mac Pro, it also wouldn't have an integrated screen. _________________

The phrase "Does a bear sh*t in the woods?" comes to mind.
Hell, I'll sell my C2D Mac mini if Apple just upgrades the video next time around. I really like these little boxes. _________________ 1.42GHz Mac mini

I wouldn't buy one, because chances are it would be out of my price range.
I couldn't imagine a quad core mini being less than $1500 if it came out immediately. Sure in 3 years, that'll drop to $500, but right now the Quad stuff is disgustingly expensive, and requires a full desktop CPU, not a mobile like the Mini currently uses. All those things added up means one expensive mini. _________________ MacBook Pro 1.83GHz Core Duo, 2GB RAM, 250GB HD, Dell 802.11n card, 1.4TB external

If we're thinking of the Intel Xeon, then yes it's going to be expensive. But Intel also make a Core 2 Quad processor, would that be cheaper? _________________ - MacBook Pro, 15inch, 2.4GHz, 2GB, 160GB HDD, SuperDrive. I Love this Mac!!!!

I'd like to see some Apple systems using the Conroe chip. They would bring more performance at a lower price.

I would get it, if it was affordable. For the people looking for a "Mac MiDi", heres what you were waiting for. This would probably be a big seller, but would take some shine away from the Mac Pro.

Not if it cost more than current minis. I would buy a Mac Pro (preferably something in between) if I needed more. I'd rather have the expansion capabilities.

Have to say no, for the sole reason that my mini is in an audio system and its noise level is therefore required to be low. A quad mini would by necessity have a louder fan.

Yes but far to hot, the ineligant way such as this creates twice the heat due to 2No cpus.
The Native way of 1 single chip with 4 true cor's would cut the heat......
other wise the top cover would melt!! _________________ Where's my hover board? thats what I say!

Robin's on the money for this one. A Core 2 Quad is a single processor with four cores, just as the Xeon is. It's not as high performance as the Xeon, but it's certainly cheaper. Unfortunately, the Core 2 Quads are full sized desktop chips, not mobile processors like Apple uses in everything but the Mac Pros. A desktop chip requires more power, more cooling, and generates more heat. _________________ MacBook Pro 1.83GHz Core Duo, 2GB RAM, 250GB HD, Dell 802.11n card, 1.4TB external

That would be great!!! I would sell my desktop immediately to buy the Mini. ...although I hope that includes a good graphic card upgrade and possibly 2 DVI ports in the back.

I'd buy one for the simple fact that I am a Web Designer, and while working, I like to have music playing, several Web pages open at once, plus Adium. I need all the threads I can get. And assuming the graphics and sound cards say the same, I can't imagine it being over a grand. Although, Apple does price things a bit high, I have noticed. Oftentimes, I think one is paying hundreds more for the aesthetics and OS more than they are for the components, which I feel is ridiculous. But even still, I love Macs. I just can't help it.
I have a theory: Apple prices so high because they count on the addiction. _________________ Mac Mini - Intel Core 2 Duo 2.0GHz; 2GB DDR2 RAM; 120GB HD.

Yes, I would. It makes it easier to run more VMs, which I use extensively for testing.
Intel is supposed to be releasing a quad core mobile chip later this year, rumored as the QX9300 - http://www.theinquirer.net/gb/inquirer/news/2008/05/14/intel-updates-gaming-notebooks
The only way I can see this being possible in a mini is if an updated Mini happens to have the firmware to support these chips allowing modders to carry out their own CPU upgrades. Whatever it will be expensive, I somehow doubt you'll get much change out of $1k for the cpu - and at that price, for me, a second mini is a much better option. |
