To whom who are interested in a 16MB HD
I was using a Toshiba 4026GAX HD in external USB drive enclosure. I decided to swap the stock Seagate HD (2MB cache) with the Tosh (16 MB). Both are 5400RPM.
Some numbers from Xbench 1.2 (1.25GHz, 512MB, average of 2 runs)
Seagate
overall: 39, HD: 28
Toshiba
overall: 41, HD: 32
The noise generated by the both HDs is pretty similar. During normal operation the Tosh does feel a bit faster. |

Having installed more apps on the new hd, and played with it, it is significantly faster, especially opening big documents, movies etc.
I am glad I decided to swap the hds.javascript:emoticon(' ') |

| No, I opened up the mini and swapped the original Seagate with my Toshiba hd. |

| Do any of the Hitachi 2.5" 7200 RPM drives come with 16MB cache? The last time I looked they were all 8MB. I wish Apple would have slipped in a Hitachi TravelStar 7K60 when they replaced my drive last week. |

I upgraded my 1.42GHz Mac Mini to 1Gb RAM a while ago and last Friday with a Toshiba MK1032GAX drive (100Gb/5400rpm/16Mb)
Overall: 46.41
Harddisk: 34.15
