Posted by: Charles
The Camino Project has announced the release of Camino 1.6, a major update to their popular web browser for Mac OS X. New features and improvements in this release include improved tabbed browsing, automatic software updates, keychain compatibility, improved toolbar search, a streamlined find interface, enhanced AppleScript capabilities, additional feed reader options, and a number of new toolbar icons and interface enhancements to fit more closely with the visual style of Mac OS X 10.5. A more extensive list of features and bug fixes can be found here. Camino 1.6 weighs in at 15.5MB, and requires Mac OS X 10.3.9 or later.

I used to be a user of Camino, but it just doesn't do it for me anymore. Plus, Safari seems way faster these days. I'll still give 1.6 a look over though. _________________ 1.25GHz Mac Mini / 1.8GHz iMac G5 / 2.0GHz C2D Mac mini (2009)

I was a big user of Camino too, mostly because at one time it was very fast and IMHO is still the best looking Mac Browser. I must be the only person on earth who thinks that the Safari interface is really ugly.
Having said that, I found Firefox 3 and while very "safari looking" it's been a huge improvement for me while surfing. A few unexplained crashes, but it's fast, seems to work with EVERY site I use and it's secure.
I downloaded Camino 1.6 with high hopes but on the third site I went to it rendered the page incorrectly. I guess substance wins over beauty in this one. Now I just hope someone will create a Mac Firefox skin that isn't a copy of the Safari interface. |

| Try WebKit's latest build, at least it passes the Acid3 test. |

Use Firefox 3 Beta 5. The default theme rocks on mac! _________________ Old Electronics Discussion:

I stated I AM using Firefox 3, but to me the interface looks like Safari with Mail Style buttons. I don't see a big improvement here.
Yes, the tabs, scrollbar, etc. are much better than the older Firefox, but the toolbar isn't very attractive. Again, IMHO.
Thanks. |
