Apple Releases Safari 3.1.1
Wednesday, April 16, 2008
Posted by: Glenn
Apple has released Safari 3.1.1 for Mac and Windows via its Software Update utility and on the Web. According to the company, this update is recommended for all Safari users and includes improvements to stability, compatibility and security. Issues that affect the Mac version of Safari include a change to WebKit to improve the handling of URLs containing a colon character in the host name, and additional validation of JavaScript regular expressions to help prevent a heap buffer overflow that can cause Safari to unexpectedly quit or execute code.
More information about the security content of Safari 3.1.1 can be found here. Safari 3.1.1 weighs in at 39MB and requires Mac OS X 10.4.11 or Mac OS X 10.5.2.

Until the day that Safari has problems rendering the sites I visit I honestly couldn't care less.

I agree, Safari is awesome. It would just be cool to see them beat Firefox and IE to the punch. I also want to see that thing get to 100%. Maybe you get a prize or something. |

Thanks for the link but, I still don't know what it is. Why is it important?
BTW, I got a 75. . . what ever that means! LOL
EDIT: I tried Camino, it only got a 53. . . So, Safari is better than Camino? _________________ Automotive Digital Marketing

52 on SeaMonkey, for what it's worth. Aside from that, Safari 3.1.1 still seems to choke on websites I regularly check, though a bit less so than version 3.1. Works fine at work, but at home FireFox is much more reliable. _________________ Mini 1: 2.3 ghz Core i5; 8 gb RAM, Corsair 240gb SSD, 500 gb Seagate XT

I guess something good came out of Pwn2Own contest after all. As for me, I'm sticking with Camino. I still prefer browsers that use the Gecko rendering engine. _________________ 2.4GHz MacBook Pro/4GB/320GB HD

WebKit basically is Safari, but pre-release, open source.

The test isn't that important from a web users point of view. Acid3 tests were designed to highlight incompatibility issues in all major browsers. I.e. when it was released all browser failed it with the highest score being around 50 for FF3/Beta. Its relatively high profile nature and easily recognisable scoring has since spurred all major browser vendors to address their failures for upcoming releases.
Its likely that by the time of the next major release of Webkit (Safari), Opera and Gecko (Firefox/Camino) all will have achieved 100/100 scores. Possibly IE8 too, although they're a little behind the others having only recently claimed Acid2 success. Nightly development builds of both Safari and Opera are both reported as achieving 100/100 scores, but afaik neither has a managed the other criteria - smooth animation. |

I wish Apple would quit updating Safari. Last update in March I lost the ability to access my bank accounts and now with this update I've lost the ability to access one of my real estate listing sites.
This is progress? NOT |
