Apple Releases Aluminum Keyboard Firmware Update 1.0
Tuesday, April 8, 2008
Posted by: Glenn

Apple has released the Aluminum Keyboard Firmware Update 1.0 via Mac OS X's Software Update utility and on the Web. According to the company, this firmware update addresses an issue with the aluminum Apple Keyboard and the aluminum Apple Wireless Keyboard where a key may repeat unexpectedly while typing. The update package will install an updater application into the Applications/Utilities folder and will launch it automatically. You should connect your aluminum Apple Keyboard before following the instructions in the updater application to complete the update process. If you are installing from a MacBook or a MacBook Pro, your computer's power cord must be connected and plugged into a working power source. The Aluminum Keyboard Firmware Update 1.0 requires Mac OS X 10.5.2.

Finally, I knew I wasn't crazy with Pages getting stuck in its "let's undo what you've just done for the last 30 minutes" mode. Laughing

I was about to consult the church or something. I thought my shiny new keyboard was possessed. Laughing

All seems well so far (knock on aluminum). Does anyone know if this fixes that Boot Camp startup issue? I'm thinking about putting XP back on here.

I didn't even know that this or any other keyboards have programable firmware in them. I'm impressed Apple, BTW, didn't notice any change in mine after the upgrade.

I tested the new firmware with my Intel Mac mini Code Duo and the KB is still NOT recognized on bootup. So, you will have to continue using your FrontRow remote to boot into bootcamp. Sad

Is this problem specific to either the wired or wireless version, or both?
The wireless version is on my horizon.

I've not had this problem with my wireless aluminum Apple Keyboard? Wondering if I should update if I've not had this problem?

My aluminum keyboard is wireless. How do I connect it? Wink Laughing

Hacker, I don't think it is that stupid of Apple to let people know that the Apple keyboard needs to be connected. Most people don't know that a keyboard has firmware. I never knew this. It's possible that someone could be running the update while using an alternate keyboard, or through a remote session.

I'll tell you what's sad. Apple makes three desktop computers and two keyboards. They can't get the startup keys to work right with one or two of the computers? I think that describes Apple in a nutshell. It's also why some people are starting to feel this way. Of course you need to switch the sexes out. Laughing
