I'm on the verge of ordering a Macbook Pro and I'm really not sure which screen to choose. I have a glossy iMac which I love but reflections can be a problem, so I'm tempted to go for the matte on the laptop but would I regret it.

I would be interested to know your views, especially anyone who already has a MBP.

Thanks

I have a glossy screen on my MacBook Pro... I like it but it does become a tad bit annoying with reflections if the screen brightness isn't at full when you're on the go but the light sensor should sort that out.

It's really your personal taste I guess. Glossy screens are best for more "true" colours or matte if you work in conditions where there's lots of light, well light aimed at the screen.

thanks for the info Robin.

On my Dell laptop I normally whack the display down to minimum as it really seems to extend the battery life quite significantly.

Most of the time I would be using the laptop at work and Uni (dull rooms) but in the summer working outside in the garden might be nice.

why do they make it so complicated, if they didn't give you choices it would makes life so much easier. Razz

Just picked up a Macbook with glossy screen. I love it! No real issue with reflections on a notebook, just move a touch to the left or right or the screen up or back and it's gone!
GO GLOSSY!

My experiences are the same as HM's, but TBH Cypher, you should mosy down to an Apple dealer and check out the screen situation for yourself. That's what I did anyway. Smile

I spend a lot of time in classrooms with my MBP, and I'm glad I have a matte screen. While glossy is awfully pretty looking, the glare would bother me too much.

Like others have said, it's a personal choice. Go see them in person and take a look.

I had sort of decided on Glossy
the split decission Confused 4 for Glossy / 5 for Matte still leans me tentatively to glossy

Matte ships next day Glossy in 3 days Advantage Matte Razz

Now I'm totally confused

I would go with a matte screen. The glossy screens on the MacBook and MacBook Pro aren't as annoying as some of the other glossy screens on laptops out there, but they still throw off a good bit of glare. Especially when a lot of dark colors are being showed on screen.

I just got the new 2.4GHz MacBook Pro with a matte screen. It's absolutely gorgeous. I'm not saying that it looks any better than the glossy screen, but why deal with glare? I also think that colors on the glossy screen look a little oversaturated.

I am agreeing with HM and JB, I also have a MacBook and I like the glossy screen. When I buy my daughter her MacBook Pro, I may get it with a glossy screen as well, but that is up to her. I don't find any problems with glare or reflections. As HM said, any glare issues can be addressed by slight movement to the left or right or a screen adjustment.

TBH Bobaloo, if Apple had offered me a choice with the MacBook, I would have gone with a matte screen. But as HM says, the glossy screen isn't as bad as I'd feared, so long as you're not sitting with a light source or reflection behind you.

I've made my decision now. Matte is the winner

I had a ride to my local Apple store tonight and compared both Macbook pros side by side. Colour wise it was hard to tell the difference, both looked equally good. However in the store I could see the reflections of the lighting and of people walking behind on glossy where as on the Matte there was none of the distractions.

So for me it was no contest, the Matte screen won.

Awesome Cypher, hope you'll enjoy your new Mac. You've managed to steer clear of the shiny, glossy things that some are so attracted to Laughing
