HandBrake 0.9.2 Released

The HandBrake team has announced the release of HandBrake 0.9.2, a new version of their popular DVD to MPEG-4 converter. According to the developers, HandBrake 0.9.2 incorporates many major and exciting changes - including full support for the AppleTV Take 2 and the latest iPhone and iPod Touch firmware.
New features and improvements include:
- Dolby Digital 5.1 (AC3) sound in MP4 files, for a true DVD experience on the AppleTV and in Perian.
- Multi-track audio support for Apple devices
- iPhone-compatible anamorphic video at its full size
- Variable frame rate encoding with detelecine filtering
- More flexible, "loose" anamorphic video
- MP4 optimization for progressive web downloads
- Dynamic range compression for encoding from AC3 audio
- Robust program and transport stream support
- A fresher, faster version of x264
- Tuning of FIFO sizes by processor count
- Better handling of audio discontinuities
- Better handling of DVD read errors
- Work-arounds for missing end-of-cell markers
- Recovery when streams have signal loss
- Better synced chapter markers
- Better handling of B-Frames
- No more cutting off the very ends of films
- No more lost subtitles or chapter markers
You can view the complete change log for the new release here. By the way, this is a Leopard only release folks. HandBrake 0.9.2 requires Mac OS X 10.5 or later.

They should, but I kind of doubt it. I can't wait to get home tonight and give it try. It sounds like they finally fixed some of those MKV issues.

| I just started my first rip with 0.9.2. I'm noticing an ever slight increase in the ripping speed, but it's still on the first pass. Everything else seems to be working fine so far. |

| It seems like more and more Leopard only applications are coming out everyday now. I guess it's time to finally upgrade my mini and MacBook from Tiger. HandBrake is definitely one of my favorite applications. |

I did too. Not much, but I guess every little FPS faster counts.

Hrm, it also has a bit of EyeTV support. I may have to experiment with it.

Wow, I missed that one. This could be really handy with the HandBrake presets. It could also speed things up. I don't know about you, but I find the iPhone and Apple TV presets in EyeTV to be a little on the slow side with h.264 encoding.

Yeah, this is the feature I was most looking forward to in 0.9.2 -- it will open .eyetv packages, without having to extract and rename the .mpg to .ts Hopefully with the stability improvements it won't bail on as many of my EyeTV recordings either.

damn thing keeps crashing on me everytime i try to encode an mp4 from video_ts folder. never had this problem before, i'll have go back to the older version til i can figure that one out.
