Apple lowers price of iPod shuffle, adds 2GB model
Tuesday, February 19, 2008
Posted by: Glenn
Apple today announced that it has lowered the price of the iPod shuffle to $49, and that it is introducing a new 2GB model of the iPod shuffle for $69. The popular iPod shuffle is just half a cubic inch in volume, weighs just half an ounce, features an aluminum design with a built-in clip and comes in five colors-silver, blue, green, purple and a (PRODUCT) RED special edition.
"At just $49, the iPod shuffle is the most affordable iPod ever," said Greg Joswiak, Apple's vice president of Worldwide iPod Product Marketing. "The new 2GB model lets music lovers bring even more songs everywhere they go in the impossibly small iPod shuffle."
The 1GB iPod shuffle is available immediately from the Apple Store. The new 2GB iPod shuffle will be available later this month.

I still like my little 2G shuffle for working out and stuff, but oh how I wish it had a screen and FM tuner like that little Sansa Clip. I would probably use it more often if it had those features. _________________ 1.25GHz Mac Mini / 1.8GHz iMac G5 / 2.0GHz C2D Mac mini (2009)

| It will be interesting to see where they price the refurbished shuffle at now. They are still at $49 at this time. |

Kind of goes against the arguments of some people that keep saying Apple doesn't sell low-cost products.
And at that price, it's almost an impulse buy item!
If it was available in royal blue (#002366), I would have bought another one. _________________ Mac mini 2010 (Core 2 Duo 2.4 GHz/8 GiB)

Apple and impulse item being used in the same breath. As the great Bob Dylan once said, the times they are a changing. |

$39 maybe. $29 is probably pushing it a bit, even though that would be nice. |

| i got to tell ya. I love my little shuffle. I use it every day at work for podcasts and talk radio when I'm doing some boring job like pressure washing and the like, but I have never once filled it up. I know if I put music on it I would but with no real way to tell whats going on cause of the lack of a screen I just stick to my nano for that. I'm sure there are people out there who will need more space but I cant see who. That wont mean that I will not get a new one gigger. Hell, at that price I can have a work pod and a workout pod. |

They were still at $49 the last time I looked, but that's what I was thinking. Although, $29 would be at about the same discount rate as before.

Why stop there? There are almost enough colors for every day of the week. |

I may have to get one at that price. I have one of the original 512MB shuffles, but I think I lost it when I moved about 6 months ago, because I haven't seen it in a while. _________________ MacBook Pro 1.83GHz Core Duo, 2GB RAM, 250GB HD, Dell 802.11n card, 1.4TB external

Well not bad but...
Apple needs to look at the ipod and how it is doing in the market. They have flooded the market with shuffles and ipod video and ipod classic and this has caused people not to upgrade to the latest ipod.
Not a bad price cut but with 2 gig sticks of flash memory going for 30.00 now 69.00 seems expensive for a 2 gig shuffle. |

Still it's a good tendency to see lower Apple prices, I wish they did that with their computers too, so maybe more people would be interested to buy one, so more softwaremakers/gamemakers would see the market growing. Especially in Europe, Apple is growing a bit against all odds because of their (high) price policy.
The cheapest shuffle here is now 45 euro's incl. tax, which is almost the price in dollars of the 2 gb version. I'll think I'll wait until I visit the States this summer... _________________ ___________________Jim©
