They aren't even shipping yet, iirc. Shouldn't this poll be "Have you pre-ordered a Time Capsule?"

| I ordered a 500GB TC a couple of days ago. I was able to sell my month or so old AEBS to a friend, so I decided to move up. |

I really like the idea, and would like to get one, but I don't think I could spare the money right now. _________________ The direct use of force is such a poor solution to any problem, it is generally employed only by small children and large nations.

My next apple purchase will be either a Macbook or Macbook Pro.
Later in the year I will be seriously considering a time capsule _________________ Phil

I have a few TB online with NASLite, but decided to get the 1TB TC so I could free up two USB HDDs used for Time Machine.
Also I could free up another USB HDD by put 300GB of my music library on it.
And finally, free up an Ubuntu box that holds 200GB of New Video on it.
So it seemed worth the money to free up three USB HDDs and power down an Ubuntu box.
Oh and get a free wireless N hub too _________________ MacMini Intel * 2x20" InteliMacs * 2xMBPs 13" * 1TB TC * 8GB iPhone * 16GB iPhone 3G * 30GB iPod Video * 2GB Nano (NetPlayers /Sounbridges /Win7 / 4TB NasLite / 4TB FreeNAS / 4 TB Thecus 4100+/ 4 TB DAS) |

I am very tempted to buy one. Probably the 500gb one when I'm working over the summer. _________________ MacBook 1.83Ghz C2D, 2GB Ram, 160GB 7200rpm HDD, OS X 10.6.5

| I already own an AirPort Extreme and a Windows Home Server, which is a lot faster than Time Capsule. I tried Time Capsule and it was to slow for me. The WHS also has remote access and a nice user interface. |

The speed difference between the Time Capsule compared to other options is too small for me to care about. I won't buy one because they are way too expensive. I don't need the fancy wireless capability, which one could get much cheaper from elsewhere. A straight USB or Firewire is grand for me. _________________ Mac Mini - Intel Core 2 Duo 2.0GHz; 2GB DDR2 RAM; 120GB HD.

Just bought one two weeks ago. The setup wasn't as straightforward as the manual suggests, but I finally got it working. I have three Macs in my house that are using it as Time Machine backup. The first run-through was 8-12 hours for each one (I added them sequentially), but now the backups are quick. I used a freeware program for changing the backup frequency from 1 to 24 hours so it doesn't clog up my network. The wireless router part is more reliable than my old Netgear, and it seems faster. It also works well with the Linux Ubuntu installation on my PowerBook G4 (dual boot) and gives me a decent connection. _________________ Mini 1: 2.3 ghz Core i5; 8 gb RAM, Corsair 240gb SSD, 500 gb Seagate XT

It was going to take 7 hours to backup my mini, so I just gave up on it. The Windows Server took like 1 hour the first time, and about 5-10 minutes per back-up. I ha to change some settings though, it was a bit annoying. |

Sounds like you already have a good solution, ESUNintel, but the time for an initial backup is almost irrelevant. I did the backups overnight and even when one was going in the morning, it had little if any effect on my use of the computer. Subsequent backups generally take 5 minutes or less when I do them at 24 hour intervals.
One important piece of advice for anyone using Time Capsule for backups is to exclude large files that change frequently like your MS Database file or worse, any virtual machines that receive regular security updates. These huge files will otherwise be backed up all the time and quickly eat up your disk space. A separate backup strategy for those is a good idea. _________________ Mini 1: 2.3 ghz Core i5; 8 gb RAM, Corsair 240gb SSD, 500 gb Seagate XT

Does your Windows Server do incremental backups, including all metadata? That's what concerns me about using a non-Apple solution (or a non-UNIX one). _________________ MacBook Pro 1.83GHz Core Duo, 2GB RAM, 250GB HD, Dell 802.11n card, 1.4TB external
