Perian 1.1 Released
Thursday, February 7, 2008
Posted by: Brian
The Perian team has announced the release of Perian 1.1, a free QuickTime component that adds native support for many popular video formats. With Perian installed, any OS X application that uses QuickTime can now use these additional media types: AVI, FLV, MKV, MS-MPEG4 v1 & v2, DivX, 3ivX, H.264, FLV1, FSV1, VP6, H263I, VP3, HuffYUV, FFVHuff, MPEG1 & MPEG2 Video, Fraps, Windows Media Audio v1 & v2, Flash ADPCM, Xiph Vorbis (in Matroska), MPEG Layer II Audio and more. This can be a big help with playing videos in Front Row, for example.
New features and improvements in Perian 1.1 include:
- Major performance improvements
- TrueAudio, MP1, and DTS audio support
- Slice-based multithreaded decoding for MPEG-1/2/H.264
- Apple H.264 now handles AVCHD/interlaced video
- Compatibility fixes for QuickTime 7.4 and Leopard
- Objective-C GC compatibility
- Fixed a crash in Toast
- Better subtitle rendering
- Subtitles play during MKV loading
- Snow support
- Miscellaneous bug fixes
Perian 1.1 requires Mac OS X 10.4.7 or later. The download (direct link) weighs in at 2.6MB.

With all of those formats supported, it's surprising they don't support OGM. _________________ MacBook 2.0Ghz CD (black) |

I guess I'll keep up-grading/dating Flip4Mac. Hopefully, Perian will be able to add that support too. I like the idea of one simple soft instead of two.
Thanks Weee appreciate the info! |

It doesn't mention supporting the open source format, ogg vorbis. That seems odd. _________________ G4 Mac Mini | 1.25ghz | 1gb | 40gb | OS X 10.4.11 | 37" Westinghouse HDTV
