On this site, they say the 2300 is compatible with Macs.

Else a Sil 3132 based card like this one should work, it's much cheaper, but will only support 2 drives.

Too bad even with the pemini adapter and a rocketraid 2300 pci-e card for 240 euro's (ca 320 dollar) it won't work, the mini doesn't recognise the bios of the Rocketraid.

I think the mini is build with restrictions, you can only put the standard airport card in the mini connector not other stuff.

Maybe someone coult try a pc and put mac osx on it (there is a special version for pc's) but what with drivers for the sata cards to put in it???

For me its over now, i must make Hd dvd's but all blu ray burners are SATA and theres only 1 sata on the mini.

I must buy a pc. 3000 euro for a mac pro is not an issue!!!

The Panasonic UJ-225b is IDE/ATA, and is even a slim drive that will replace the Mini's optical drive.

Yeah the power cable from the power supply was not attached on the power module, so there was no power on the pemini. Now i have attached a 2nd sata drive to channel 1 (i have four) and now i could use 2 drives, so i could use a SATA Blu ray burner besite my sata HD.

One disadvantage on this moment, i am not able to boot from the drive(s) attached to the highpoint adapter. the manual told > int 13 but is that also for mac?? how to tell the system to boot from the card??? Also the system doesn't see the extra card with system profile? nor do i get the BIOS?

There is a internet configuration utility:

This is fantastic news! did you consider looking at buying a x1 to x16 adapter at the same time from the same people?

Also, may I suggest booting into windows on your mini (using bootcamp or something else) and see if that RAID card is recognised under windows? You may also need to connect up the power to the connector. I'm holding my breath!

The card only works with power on, i never thought of buying a 16 lane converter, also i had not thought of the booting problem i am unknown with this stuff because in my days of pc's there was no PCI-express, sure a converter with 16 lanes should work, but only of course ad maximum of 250 MBytes because (i thougth) the original mini card (airport) is 1 lane (why should they have made it 16 lanes for a wireless 54 Mb max).

yes, the converter would only convert the mechanical connection - it would still work at x1 speeds. However, it would mean you could connect x16 cards - such as the new 8800gt for mac pro - into the mini.

Did you confirm that the card is seen by System Profiler, just not bootable? If so, I think we have a verified solution. The next step will be to try a graphics card!

No, too bad it is not seen in system profiler.

That's a pitty. Do you have windows installed on your mac? It would be interesting to see if the card was recognised under windows, even thought it's not seen in OSX

I don't understand.
The card is not recognized, but the disks are ?
How can it be?

The disks are recognised under mac OSX even though the card doesn't show up in the system profiler? Is that what you're saying?

If so, there's hope yet. It may be that the card simply isn't being recognised because the System Profiler for the mini doesn't have the expansion cards sextion - because the mini isn't supposed to be expandible. If the disks appear, though, I would say the card works.

Yep the first time i just put the card in de pemini not looking for a driver, but when i installed a driver the card was working (although i have not be able to test more than 1 device (raid) because i only have just one spare drive (my backup drive) on this moment.
I am seaching for another card that will be bootable because i want to use a raid (double speed) stripe but i think i must do it another way, > put a blu-ray on the sata port and also the backup drives and use the firewire connector on some way through a bridge and use 2 striped drives on the firewire port. (but its also hard to find a firewire bridge to do this).

Interesting. I know there are bootable mac RAID cards about, but I'm not sure how well they will work with the mini. Good luck though!

I'm going to post this in the "graphics card" thread as a confirmed success - or at least, very encouraging.
