My mouse started hanging today. This happens like a few times a minute. The hard drive makes a noise and it will get freed up. Screwy! |

This happens no matter what you're doing on your computer, so even if you have no apps open? _________________ Computer Engineer

Nothing open. It almost seems like the HD is hanging and making everything to freeze. The HD clicks 2-3 times and causes the system to lock. It then clicks another 2-3 times and everything gets freed up. I'm going to call Apple and see what they say. Everything was running fine until I installed MSN messenger 5.0 this morning! |

Update: The hard drive is dead. Apple is going to replace it. It was clicking non-stop last night. |

Well, hopefully you're all backed up. That makes sense, normally when hard drives start clicking they're on their way out. _________________ Computer Engineer

Yikes! Sounds like your HD was in it's death throes. lol
I was going to say it sounds like a heating issue, on my PC when it starts to overheat, the mouse hangs for no reason and it gets sluggish untill I do something to cool it off. _________________ Me with Woz!

Backup... What's a backup?
I just hope they replace it with a 5400rpm drive. |

Unfortunately, this is my mentality. As I've never lost anything, I haven't had the type of learning experience that normally fixes this.

I was going to say I hope they do this for you, too. It'd be a nice little speed boost. _________________ Computer Engineer

| I try to do regular backups of my music and photos. Couldn't imagine losing all these pictures of my kids. I really need to clean up my folders before implementing a total backup strategy. I have a bad habit of throwing things into any old folder. Thank god for Spotlight! |

Update. I got my Mac mini back today and I am back in mini bliss! They replaced the hard drive with a Toshiba drive. It's amazing how loud other computers sound once you get use to the Mac mini's complete silence. |
