I guess we'll be saying 'heard any good books lately.'
I checked out Audible, but didn't register, from what I'm seeing here, I'll probably give it a go as well. _________________ 2.5 GHZ i5 Mac Minu 8Gb Ram

Been with audible since they went live,
(even have a legacy account 5 books 2 subscriptions a month for $35... they have since changed their pricing).
It used to not work so well with iTunes, but now it directly downloads to it, after activation of the account (and goes right to audio books).
Downloads can be somewhat frustrating, I tend to get dropped connections from them. But reconnecting is never a problem
In general a good experience.
However, when selecting audio books I have learned the following
1.) Not all books lend itself well to audio.
2.) Narrator can make or break a good book
3.) Trust the user ratings. If there is a bad narration or production the members tend to do a good job in letting you know in the comments.
4.) The best audio format may just take up space
5.) listen to the sample before buying
6.) If a file is damaged or really poor quality, call audible they will give you a new credit, and sometimes extra ones for the problem.
Also, there are other sources for audio books.
www.audiotogo.com works just like netflix
Free books:
http://www.gutenberg.org/wiki/Main_Page
http://www.gutenberg.org/wiki/Gutenberg:The_Audio_Books_Project
(Hehe, not always a good narrator on these, but free)
And my favorite:
The library.
My local county libraries even have books you can check out and download! |

I have a MAC method now for getting my MP3 Audiobooks onto my iPod and showing in the Audiobook section on my iPod.
Firstly from http://dougscripts.com/itunes/
download the script Make Bookmarkable (I think ClunkClunk mentioned this one)
another useful script is Join Together which merges multiple files into a single aac file.
Install the scripts
Now to convert your files.
Drag the MP3(s) into iTunes.
ctrl-click on the track(s) in inTunes and select "Convert Selection to ACC"
Delete the MP3(s) versions from iTunes Library so your left with just the AAC versions.
Highlight the AAC(s)
From the Scripts Menu select Make Bookmarkable
Follow the prompts.
The Audiobooks will now show in the Audiobook section of your iPod and have all the attributes set such as Skip When Shuffling, Remember Play back position etc. _________________ Phil

This is awesome, Kudos to Cypher and clunkclunk!
I have been looking for a way to do this for months. I a lot of audio books in my itunes library (about 18gbs worth!), I love language and find listening to a book really involving. I agree that a bad narrator can ruin an otherwise great book.
At the moment I am listening to In Cold Blood by Truman Capote on my way to and from work every day!
If anyone knows where I can get a reading of The Handmaid's Tale by Margaret Atwood I would really appreciate a heads up, I bought one copy but the narration is not so good so I a looking for a better one.

I realise that I'm taking my own thread off-topic, but this still fits into the category of "alternative ways to read a book": http://www.booksinmyphone.com/ _________________ Intel Mini 2.0GHz C2D (4GB/120GB/SuperDrive/10.5.8 ), 120GB WD Passport, Logitech ergo k/b

I've just found a load of free-to-download audiobooks at Project Gutenberg: http://www.gutenberg.org/browse/categories/1 _________________ Intel Mini 2.0GHz C2D (4GB/120GB/SuperDrive/10.5.8 ), 120GB WD Passport, Logitech ergo k/b
