Streaming to the Apple TV

So, with the ATV 2.0 and the new iTunes 7.6(?) can you stream backed up movies from an iMac to the ATV (as long as they are iTunes)?
Any chance for cover art and metadata as well?

That depends if your iMac is set to sync or stream. But yeah, you can stream anything that plays in iTunes. Your cover art and meta-data will show up as well.

how do i set up the apple tv to stream only? I don't want to fill up the hard drive...i want to store tons of files on an external hd to my lap top and stream them to the apple tv

Sure it works great, use MetaX to tag information and cover art for your movies and it shows up in both iTunes and on the AppleTV wonderfully, you can even backup your files digitally now with 5.1 for AppleTV with HandBrake 0.92 or newer.

You set up your AppleTV as a Custom sync, I only sync pictures, everything else streams.
