I'm not in the target market, as I don't need a machine that's an ultraportable at the expense of connectivity and performance.
However, for the people in that type of market, it's a pretty nice little machine. _________________ MacBook Pro 1.83GHz Core Duo, 2GB RAM, 250GB HD, Dell 802.11n card, 1.4TB external

I would have considered one if it had been nearer the price of a macbook. I do want a MAC OS notebook to take to work and uni but £1200 is out of my league, saying that even at £800 I probably would still have gone for the macbook. _________________ Phil

With how often I take my laptop outside my house I wouldn't need this, plus it needs more ports, I could do without optical drive if price was close to MacBook. _________________ "You must control your future by taking command of your present, and fixing and learning from your past."

I personally think the MacBook air would be more unique/attractive if it had a small screen and mini keyboard and weighed 1.5 lbs.
It's still pretty cool as is but I think an entirely wireless portable should be really small. If you've ever tried using a notebook on an airplane or in a vehicle you realize that a big screen is often a drawback much more so than the thickness of the notebook. Given that the Air weighs 3lbs like other small notebooks I see no real advantage to this device other than it looks cool. |

My sentiments exactly, Bill. Why not bring out an OS X ultra-moblie like the Asus Eee PC (perhaps a fraction bigger) with a more useful screen resolution? Apple could easily do this, they'd at least sell enough to breakeven, but probably a hell of a lot more. _________________ Intel Mini 2.0GHz C2D (4GB/120GB/SuperDrive/10.5.8 ), 120GB WD Passport, Logitech ergo k/b

The idea of it is great, the design fantastic, but so over priced it hurts.
Not sure I agree with idea of target market so much if you look at all the other machine in the line up they lead from one to the next in a very clever scale.
It goes like this:
The mac mini starts at £400 but for an extra £100 you can have a superdrive but hang on if Im spending £500 now why not throw in another £200 and get a mac book that offers me the extras of a screen and keyboard... but lets not stop there if I just stretch to another £100 I can get an Imac 20"... why stop at 20" I can get 24" for another £200.
Before you know it you've up-sold your self by £500 and its hard to get your self back down to the mac mini after all that.
I don't see how the Mac book air sits into this, with far less features than the mac book pro it doesn't add up, even business people can see though this cant they??? _________________ Where's my hover board? thats what I say!

I have a crappy Dell that I use for work. I've used the optical drive in it, I think twice in over 2 years. I mainly use it for Excel, Word, PowerPoint and eMail. That's it. There's nothing to "see through", it seems to me ole' Stevie Boy has once again done his homework, and got an A+! I will sure enjoy lugging around a 3lb "Air" over my 7-8lb Dell any day. err... everyday!
EDIT: I also have NEVER plugged anything into the ethernet port. I use the wireless and the air card that is provided by my employer. (I already have a USB to Express Card adapter) _________________ Automotive Digital Marketing

I think it's priced right for it's size. For me I'm very tempted to buy it and use it instead of my MacBook Pro that I lug round all the time. The MacBook Air would be perfect for my mobile computing _________________ - MacBook Pro, 15inch, 2.4GHz, 2GB, 160GB HDD, SuperDrive. I Love this Mac!!!!

The should have priced it between the macbook and macbook Pro, its too close to the Pro so if I did have that sort of money I would spend it on the Macbook Pro. _________________ Phil

| I love my MacBook Air!! If your looking for an ultra portable computer, it's perfect. If your a power user, play games, or plan on running lots of stuff on Vista than get the MacBook or MacBook Pro. The Air runs XP on VMware Fusion just fine (while running Visual Studio, SQL Server 2005 and Access), but it doesn't run Vista so well. |

The Air is a pretty little thing, but definitely not for me. 1 USB port? Riiiight. No optical drive? Riiight. Small HDD space? No way.
Not worth it to me for what I do. I simply need an optical drive, and can't have my USB port being taken up with that -- and it becomes less portable when one has to carry the Air, the optical drive, and a USB hub. Screw that. _________________ Mac Mini - Intel Core 2 Duo 2.0GHz; 2GB DDR2 RAM; 120GB HD.
