|
|
Hi, I bought a Mac Mini about a month ago. It was working fine for a while, but recently the audio output has gone wonky. When I unplug the jack, the internal speaker still comes on and works, but when I plug in an external speaker of any sorts, it deosnt work. I have tried three seperate cables, and headphones. When they are plugged in, the menu in system preferences registers that they are there, but still no sound.
Just dead air.
Can anyone help? |

Dead air: like completely silent? or with static and stuff? If it's got scratchy static noise or something that could mean that something has gone awry with the hardware. But if it's dead quiet or with really high-pitch squeals it could be a software/driver issue. _________________ Me with Woz!

In that case I'm unsure what's happening. I have a gut feeling that it's a hardware issue since no sound is coming out at all and since you said that it worked fine for a while before having these problems. But it could just as easily be a software issue. I think the best way of finding out what's really at fault is giving Apple's Tech Support a ring. _________________ Me with Woz!

You need a logic board, I had the same problem. The connecting points in the mini can get bent pretty easily. If you have an Apple repair place near by call 'em up and have them order one. Just my 2ยข _________________ 1.42 mini 1GB RAM with superdrive |

I would also vouch for it being a hardware problem. It doesn't make any sense about the audio out not working, when the internal speaker still does if it is a software issue. But a lot of software issues don't make sense...Well, still seems like a hardware issue. _________________ Computer Engineer
