I am using the latest Handbrake release, and it has Apple TV pre-set. Is this the best possible quality rip for apple tv? I havent played the one rip I made on the tv (46" samsung). I did quickly scanned through it on my computer and it was far from "dvd quality". I was hoping there was a way to bump up the picture, file size and time are not factors.

I too use Handbrake to rip to my ATV. I find that on my Sony HDTV it's fine, I have taken the default ATV settings and created my own profile with the 2 pass setting enabled.

2-pass encoding is a must. You will get major artifacts in action scenes without it. I also bump the average bitrate up to 2000kbps.

Any ideas?
Mostly this happens when going from a video_ts to a Apple tv friendly format.

I would actually try lowering the average bitrate down to 2000 kbps in HandBrake. That is my default. |
