I've never, ever, ever, ever, used Linux before, what's it like? I was thinking of buying a copy of it (Has all of Linux on the disc, so you can run it w/out messing up your system). Anyway, if I downloaded a free version, where can I get it from, and does it run on my PC? I have lots of questions so any help would be appreciated.

P.S. The creator was born in Helsinki, Finland (very close to my mom's home town)!

Don't forget the "Linux for Human Beings", Ubuntu, is very easy to install and you can also try the trial self contained bootable disc which is basically the same as the Knoppix. Link: http://us.releases.ubuntu.com/releases/5.04/

Download the Power PCLive CD and burn it. Pop the disc in your Mini and restart. As soon as you hear the startup chime, press and hold c. It should boot from thUbuntu Live cd.

All Linux distros are free unless they're aimed at the enterprise, really. Just grab one off of here. People seem to be running Ubuntu and Knoppix a lot. I have Knoppix on a live CD for x86, and it's awesome. It can read NTFS, so I can haxxor into my friends computers. You'll want to download CD1 if they're more than one CDs, though a DVD would be better if you can find an image of one at the above link. You'll want to download one for the PPC core if you want to run it on a Mac. You'll want the ones for i386 for an
Intel box or AMD64 if you're running an Athlon64 or Sempron64.

I've been a Linux user for the past few years. I've mostly used Slack, but am currently using Ubuntu. Slack is a very nice distribution if you really want to get into Linux. It's the distro which will get you familiar with a UNIX OS faster than most of the other distros, safe maybe Gentoo and of course Linux from scratch. Ubuntu is really nice, and you can order it for FREE. That's right, they'll send you the live CD, and the install CD free of charge. In fact, they'll send you at least 10 copies, which you can hand out to friends.

Ubuntu is by far the most user friendly Linux distro I've used so far. The good thing about it, is that it's friendly to new nix users, while it's basically Debian, which is a very powerful and widely used distro. A lot of these user friendly Linux distros lack in power, speed and functionality, like Red Hat and Mandrake (this is my opinion). So if you want to get into Linux, I'd say Ubuntu is your best option now. I hear Fedora is somewhat on par with Ubuntu, but I haven't used it, so I can't judge on that.
